Covid-19 LFA continues in Park City, Kansas for LFA 96. Maycon Mendonca beat Batsumberel Dagvadorj by unanimous decision to capture the vacant LFA Welterweight title. Real time scoring is weird. There was one instance where the Judges all changed their scores from 10-9 to 10-8s. …interesting…
Main Event
Maycon Mendonca vs Batsumberel Dagvadorj – Welterweight
Round 1
Mendonca puts a kick storm on Dagvadorj, but the Monglian survives and takes Mendonca down and gets into his guard
Round 2
Dagvadorj eats some knees and gets the takedown. he stands and gets beat up a little.
Round 3
Madness with Dagvadorj eating knees and going for takedowns
Round 4
Dagvadorj is just eating shots and looking to land the left hand
Round 5
Dagvadorj eats shots and gets a takedown.🚩 Mendonca wins by Unanimous decision
This was a very strange fight. Mendonca seems to fight people that aren’t very good. Dagvadorj is tough, but he’s not very good. The Mongolian was just depending on his chin and looking for the left hand, and he wasn’t even setting up the left hand. Mendonca ate some big shots as well, but the Brazilian was in control for most of this fight. I’d like to see Mendonca defend the belt, because I dont really think that Dagvadorj was a worthy contender. Maybe the LFA is doing Mendonca a solid with these matchups
Anthony Romero vs Zach Juusola – 160 lbs
Round 1
Juusola is loose and Romero clinches and throws a few strikes. Juusola keeps his hands really low
Round 2
Juusola wins the round by just throwing jabs
Round 3
Jabs by Juusola, Romero gets a takedown🚩 Romero wins by Spilt decision
This fight was very low level. Juusola looked bad, and Romero looked bad. Its hard to believe that Romero was on the Contender Series
Regivaldo Carvalho vs Mo Miller – Bantamweight
Round 1
Miller *slams* and ground and pounds Carvalho all around the cage. ouch
Round 2
Miller glues himself to Carvalho and then slams him unconscious. 🚩Mo Miller wins by KO
Miller is a very very smart fighter, a very strong fighter and a good wrestler. I haven’t seen a lot of his striking, and I’ll be looking out for that, but he’s very exciting, my only critique is that his style is so grinding and hard nosed that he may burn himself out. Miller just imposed his will on Carvalho in this fight, and Miller’s will was for Carvalho to get slammed into oblivion. Very exciting.
Matthew Colquhoun vs Mark Martin – Welterweight
Round 1
Colquhoun throws some kicks and Martin gets the takedown. Colquhoun makes it to his feet and Martin takes him down again
Round 2
Martin takes Colquhoun down and lays and prays
Round 3
The Kansas Commission already let Martin know that he was up 20-18. so Martin moves around and throws some jabs🚩Martin wins by unanimous decision
Colquhoun doesn’t even look like a Sambo fighter anymore. He looks weak in the wrestling department, he looks slow in the grappling department, and he looks apprehensive in the striking department. In the 3rd round when Martin decided to coast, Colquhoun did not know how to apply pressure, and he looked out of ideas. I think Colquhoun should seek out Jason Jackson. I’ve been watching Jason Jackson in Bellator, and he’s gone from strength to strength, he improves just a little bit every time I see him. Colquhoun needs to seek out guys like that and get good training in. Martin looks like a lay and pray artist right now. If someone defends his wrestling attack, I think he’ll be out of ideas.
Mitzy Merry vs Lisa Maudlin – Flyweight – Merry missed weight
Round 1
Maudlin eats some shots and clinches. Merry accepts bottom after a kick and tries to work off her back, nothing significant
Round 2
Merry clinches for some reason and gets held up against the cage. Maudlin gets a takedown and stays on top
Round 3
Merry clinches again, they get in a sloppy grappling match.🚩 Maudlin wins by unanimous decision
This was a relatively low level fight, Merry has a poor fight IQ and has terrible footwork, Maudlin seems to just want to push other girls up against the cage. Both of these ladies have tons of room to grow.
Slava Borschev vs William Starks – Lightweight
Round 1
Borschev is looser and is doing some work, Starks is have a little success but eating a lot of shots
Round 2
Starks gets a few takedowns but dows nothing on the ground and Borschev is a little stagnant on the feet
Round 3
Borschev is winning on the feet and Starks gets a takedown at the end. 🚩Starks wins by split decision
I thought Borschev won this fight, but it was very close, and its a good learning lesson for Slava, he took his foot off the gas way too much, and he lacked a bit of cardio in the 3rd round. Starks didn’t have a very good fight either, he relied a lot on toughness and he ate a lot of big shots, I’m curious to see if he improves.
Joe Holmes vs Ryan Leininger – Middleweight
Round 1
They move around throwing one shot at a time, Holmes hits Leininger with a big right, and finishes him with a re-enforced knee and some ground and pound.🚩 Holmes wins by TKO
Holmes moves around a little slow, I dont like it. I just dont like that slow movement. I’d like to see more combos from Holmes too, but what am I saying, maybe the man knew what he was doing, he got the finish and didn’t take a lot of damage. Its early days for Leininger.
Mo Miller was unbroken at LFA 96
