So LFA 93 Went down in Park City, Kansas. A good show. Not as good as I thought it was going to be though. I thought Sam Hughes was going to fight Cynthia Arceo, and for some reason I thought I’d get to see Abdul-Kareem Al-Selwady. For the most part the show delivered. The LFA went with the live scoring option from the Kansas commission for the 2nd time… Live scoring… its…. OK. Its only useful if they think that the judges aren’t scoring the fights at the correct times. -If that is the case, I think the judges should submit their round by round results to a representative of the promotion, they dont have to show the scores to the corners. When they show the scores to the corners, It takes away some of the drama of the fight, its also gives some fighters an incentive to play it safe. Eh… that’s just my 2 cents. In the Main-event at LFA 93, Middleweight Aaron Jeffery stopped Andre Petroski in the 2nd round via Knee and strikes
Main Event
Aaron Jeffery vs Andre Petroski – Middleweight
Round 1
Petroski gets the takedown, Jeffery works to his feet and does well on the ground
Round 2
Petroski’s wrestling slows down and Jeffery gets on top. They stand and clinch against the cage. Jeffery lands a devastating Elbow and then drops Petroski with a knee. 🚩Jeffery wins by TKO
It was my first time seeing the Canadian Aaron Jeffery, and he’s not too bad. I like that he was able to work his way back to his feet on several occasions, and I like the striking decisions that he made, the thing about it is, he made those decisions very slowly. If he tightens that up, I can see him doing very very well. I was not impressed with Petroski, he only wanted to wrestle, and he gassed out after wrestling, and at one time he looked like he even pulled-guard *gasp* a wrestler’s cardinal sin. I’ll bee watching Jeffery to see where he goes from here
Danielle Hindley vs Sam Hughes – 120 lbs
Round 1
Hughes pieces up Hindley on the feet, Hindley tires to pull guard and Sam Hughes doesn’t let her. They get to baby on the hip situation, and Hughes hammers Hindley until she falls off. Hughes continues to pepper Hindley with jabs, and in the last seconds of the fight Hindley shoots in on Hughes and Hughes locks on a front choke. Hughes chokes Hindley unconscious as the round comes to an end. 🚩Sam Hughes wins by submission
Sam Hughes has a high fight IQ, and when a fighter has a high fight IQ like Hughes, that fighter needs a coach that will trust them to make the right decisions. Sam Hughes’ coach was telling her to go for the finish in the Demopoulos fight, and she paid for it -and got finished. I guess its all a part of the learning process. Sam Hughes beats up most 115ers and is super competitive with most 125ers. She could have a hard time finding fights if she stays where she is. A rematch with Demopoulos, although warranted, doesn’t look likely. I think its time for her to move on to the UFC. Hindley’s footwork needs to get better. She was standing in one spot and throwing, that does not work against top competition.
Josh Fremd vs Antonio Jones – Middleweight
Round 1
Fremd comes out with a flying knee and grapples aggressively. Fremd clinches with Jones and rocks him with a one-two. He then throws a looping punch that puts Jones on all fours, and while Jones is on all fours Fremd puts his lights out. He lands one more hammer-fist for good measure, but it wasn’t necessary. 🚩Fremd wins by KO
Fremd comes to destroy, everything he throws is with bad intentions and brutality. His clinch game looks strong, and he looks good in transitions. I still would like to see a little bit more of his ground game personally, but damn, he looks exciting. Jones? I dont really know what to make of him. He fights a little too reckless, and he’s willing to eat too many shots
Elijah Johns vs Luke Faultersack – Lightweight
Round 1
Faultersack is just trying for takedowns, cant seem to keep Johns down.
Round 2
Johns bust Faultersack up with some knees on the feet, and is able to stay away from the takedown
Round 3
Johns lands a lot of knees and big shots and Faultersack cant seem to keep him down. 🚩Johns wins by unanimous decision
In the last five seconds of the fight, Faultersack just gave up and went to give Johns a handshake. Thats how you know you’ve had a good performance. This was a mature performance by Johns. He was able to land some nice strikes, use great defensive wrestling, and use great footwork to get the win. One critique is that he keeps his head on the centerline, and from time to time, he eats straight punches down the middle. I love how brutal Johns got in the clinch. Faultersack is not bad, that guy has a ton have heart, but the takedown cant be you’re only route to victory. He needs to diversify his offense.
Justin Wetzell vs Teshay Gouthro – 140 lbs
Round 1
Wetzell gets 2 takedowns, and is really hunting for the takedown in this fight. He’s a little stagnant on the feet, and Gouthro is also a little stagnant on the feet
Round 2
Wetzell is going for takedowns and gets stuffed and boxed up a little bit
Round 3
Wetzell is able to counterstrike and gets 2 takedowns, he works on top and tries for some submissions. 🚩Wetzell wins by Unanimous decision
Justin Wetzell looked good on the feet, but he still wanted to wrestle for some reason. I know there was a weight-cut issue, so maybe he lost some strength with the weight cut. I’m thinking, maybe a move to 145 might be good for him. He’d be stronger, with tighter submissions, and he’d trust his power more. Gouthro? I’m not too impressed, I saw rudimentary stuff, but he’s only had four fights at this juncture, so we’ll see whats in store for him
Trevor Wells vs Carlos Hernandez – Flyweight
Round 1
Wells is a little faster, but is on the wrong end of some straight rights. Both guys bounce well and throw a lot of volume
Round 2
Hernandez is moving well ang giving Wells a lot to think about and Wells is getting complacant at times. Both are stiking at a high pace
Round 3
Hernandez does some work, gets the takedown and lays and prays.🚩 Hernandez wins by unanimous decision
I thought Wells won this fight, he’s faster and uses better angles, but he eats punches from time to time, I dont know if he loses concentration, or if its a technical problem, but every now and again, he’ll eat a shot clean. Hernandez used the live scoring to learn that he was up on the score cards going into the third round and laid and prayed in the third to secure his win
Joshua Silveira vs Fernando Alvarado – Light Heavy Weight
Round 1
Patient stuff by Silveira, Alvarado trying to punch his way in,. Silveira gets the takedown and does some work
Round 2
Sparring pace by Silveira
Round 3
Silveira takes Alvarado down beats him up and locks in the arm triangle.🚩 Silveira wins by submission
This fight looked like, A trained fighter vs a street fighter. This was barely a contest. I feel like Silveira sparred with Alvarado for two rounds and then finished him. I know nothing about Silveira after this, even though this fight went over 2.5 rounds. -I guess I know that Silveira is trained, and that he’s got an arm triangle, not much else.
Sam Hughes was unbroken at LFA 93
