Contender Series 2021 Week 2

Contender Series 2021 Week 2

Week 2 was a good week for the Contender Series, I thought all the fights were pretty entertaining.

Guys that got contracts on this show were: Josh Quinlan, Chidi Njokuani, Saimon Oliveira, CJ Vergara and Chad Anheliger.

Here are grades of the talent on the show. These grades are only based on their Contender Series performance, and not their performance before, in other organizations.

MMA is back to full capacity in Texas, Fury FC 44 took place at the Bayou City Event center in Houston, TX and this was the first event for Fury on UFC FightPass. I’m so glad that its on FightPass because paying for some of the Fury events can be rough… I mean the fights are good, but some of the production can be absolutely horrible. With the FightPass deal, the production is significantly beefed up

This show had Prelims and Postlims, in between those, the main event showcased CJ Vergara vs Jacob Silva for the Fury FC Flyweight title. These two top level flyweight had a war, and CJ Vergara captured the Fury FC Flyweight title, by TKO in the 3rd round, in one of the best fights I’ve seen across any promotion, this year, so far. Best in Texas 2020

Best in Texas 2020

We’ve had a rough year for MMA in 2020. There are so many fighters that missed out on their development this year and I’m pretty sure a lot of fighters had to quit MMA, because of the pandemic, but hopefully a lot of real fighters still have that spark and continue to train and get better. Some people say that you should never have a plan B. – 😅 I’m an advocate for plan Bs, and plan Cs and plan Qs, because you never know what life’s gonna throw at you, There is a vaccine now, and I’ve heard that its effective, so hopefully in 2021 we can all put this 2020 madness behind us. I dont know how the vaccine will work, but I’m hopeful. Just hopeful. read more

I’ve been kinda keeping up with the Fury promotion. They have great talent down there in Houston. The atmosphere is good, but the judging is soooooo bad. You guys saw it at UFC 247. It can get down right horrible at times, and I really think there is legit corruption there. I cant prove it, but the scores just dont make any sense.

Silva bounces well, throws some good single strikes. He backs up and rocks Lira with a flying knee and is able to get him down and beat him up. 🚩Silva wins by TKO read more

Best in Texas 2019

Best in Texas 2019

So, I’ve seen a lot of fights in 2019. Ofcourse I havent seen everyone, but, I’ll go with the stuff I know. So here are my top 5 rankings, in weight divisions in Texas. Ofcourse, guys in larger organizations are excluded

Women

  • Desiree Yanez
  • Vanessa Demopoulos
  • Courtney King
  • Hailey Cowan
  • Audrey Wolfe

Women have a tough time in the fight game in general. They may need to travel to get fights, They may need to move up and down in weight classes, and sometimes life just gets in the way. A lot of good female fighters in Texas never really move on from the Amateur scene. Id really like to put Sam Hughes on this list. She’s fought in Texas a couple of times, but she really is from the PNW. She’d be number 1 or 2 on this list. Demopoulos fights out of California, but she’s had several fights in Texas read more

What was unBROKEN in 2019?

What was unBROKEN in 2019?

Jan. 12 At XKO 44. The Hooters girls were unbroken – I’m not really a horn-dog per se, but for some reason those Hooters girls at the show did something for me. Also The rap music mixed with Tejano was unbroken. – It was more of rap music mashed up with Tejano, I’ve never heard that before, and I was impressed.

Jan 18. At LFA 57 Taylor Johnson was unbroken – The man ran through Aaron Chambers. I was also a little surprised that he was stopped by Jiu Jitsu ace Andre Muniz on the Contender Series. Sometimes they let too savages fight each other on that show read more

Fury 38: Round by Round results

Fury 38 was at Cowboys Dancehall in San Antonio. The Fury Promotion is heavily active in South Texas. There were some fun fights. CJ Vergara was fighting for an interim 125 belt, he didn’t make weight, so its kinda like the scrapped the whole belt situation, and said, “Who ever wins will fight the champ” – Good stuff

Main Event

CJ Vergara vs Shawn Solis – Flyweight. Vergara missed weight

Round 1

Vergara is slow with not a lot of movement. Solis is bouncing around well. Vergara throws some punches and lands some hard knees from the clinch. read more
