Fury FC 32 was in Humble, TX – a suburb of Houston. They had great amateurs and good pro fights. The promotion is starting to travel all around the Southwest and is gaining a lot of popularity.
Rey Trujillo vs Daniel Pineda – Featherweight
Round 1
Pineda takes Trujillo down, beats the hell out of him and rides him around the ring to get the TKO victory. π©Pineda wins by TKO
Pineda knew exactly what what he was doing. This was a world-class professional ground beating. Pineda easily transitioned from RNC to Arm-triangle, to hell-bows. He’s needs high level fights at high level organizations.
Warren Stewart vs Victor Pozas – Featherweight
Round 1
Pozas dives for a leg and eats some knees. Pozas takes Stewart down and takes his back. Stewart is able to reverse position and rain down punches.
Round 2
Pozas cannot strike at all and is just looking to shoot. Stewart has no problem going to the ground with Pozas. Dirty sloppy ground fighting.
Round 3
Both guys are gassed, there is a lot of clinching and hitting, with Pozas getting the better of the exchanges. π© Stewart wins by split decision
Pozas got better as the fight went on, but he has a long way to go. He ate a lot of shots and he cannot strike. He has an educated ground game, but it wasn’t tight enough. Stewart could not finish a fighter that was willing to eat shots, he wrestled well, but he needs to be more dynamic in his striking.
Casey Jones vs Ramiro Guerra – Bantamweight
Round 1
Guerra is winning with strikes and punches untill he gets gassed and dragged to the ground by Jones. Jones works to the back and slaps on the RNC. Jones wins by submission.
Guerra looked good – very good, but he was naive. It’s like he didnt know how much he had in the tank. Jones was able to withstand the early storm and strangle his opponent into submission. I’m curious to see Jones against less naive opposition.
Andrew Sosa vs Cal Diaz – Middleweight
Round 1
Sosa looks bad. Cal Diaz looks bad. Flailing kicks and wild punches galore.
Round 2
Sosa has his hands way down and looks gassed already. Diaz is super tentative but is able to land a few overhand rights.
Round 3
Its hard to believe that this is a pro-fight. Diaz begins to counter-punch. More Flailing. π© Sosa wins by unanimous decision.
I think Diaz won the fight, but this was so bad that I don’t really care. If these guys keep fighting like this at the pro-level, they’re gonna get seriously hurt.
Justin Holiday vs Patrick Greene – Welterweight
Round 1
Holiday looks built for MMA. – Thick with long arms. He starts off with some kicks and then they clinch, Greene is able to reverse position and land some knees.
Round 2
Holiday throws some kicks and takes Greene down. He goes to full mount and rains downs strikes. π© Holiday wins by TKO.
This is Holiday’s first pro-fight. BTW I don’t know if its Holliday or Holiday. The screen in the Fury area had Holiday. They Tapology page has “Holliday”. Anyway, He should really work on his boxing. Greene should work his wrestling game more. Early days for these two fighters.
Gustavo Gomez vs Carlos Melara – Bantamweight
Round 1
Melara hammers Gomez with some knees. Kicks him like a soccer ball, takes his back, sinks in the RNC, realizes that he cant finish it, switches to an anaconda and gets the tap. Too easy
Melara ran through Gomez like a hot knife through butter. He showed the man no respect, and just dominated. Melara set out to prove something in this fight. – I see you Carlos Melara
Amateur bouts
Anthony McBride vs Isaac Moreno – Welterweight
Round 1
Moreno looks extremely polished. He hits McBride with a right and then brutally pounds him out on the ground. π© Isaac Moreno wins by KO
Isaac Moreno SHOULD BE A PROFESSIONAL!! It is almost criminal for this man to be knocking out amateurs like this. This is ridiculous. This guy looked like the best talent on the whole Goddamn card and he’s an amateur? This is the type of fighter, that after you see them you have to look at what gym they train at, and I did- He trains at Gracie Barra Katy. LFA, XKO – whoever – Give this man some PROFESSIONAL fights. The guy was moving great. He moved as if he knew that he carried a lot of muscle mass, his striking looked accurate, and he came to destroy. McBride could still be a great MMA fighter, but he ran into a PROFESSIONAL buzz-saw. Please, no more ammy fights for this guy. Isaac Moreno.
Jake Williams vs Colton Herrera – Heavyweight
Round 1
Williams nails Herrera square, Herrera tries too get to his feet. Early stoppage from the referee. π© Williams wins by TKO
Early stoppages in Amateur competitions are forgivable. Williams looked good. I would certainly like to see more. Herrera is built like a strongman from the 1800s, Id like to if he has some more juice also.
Tony Martinez vs Isaac Flores – Featherweight
Round 1
Flores is 17. It makes me wonder if there should be some law against this. Martinez takes Flores down with two big slams and Martinez just looks stronger. Flores is using good footwork.
Round 2
Flores continues to use good footwork, but gets hit every time he tries to get on the inside. He looks visibly scared for Martinez’s power.
Round 3
Martinez is gassed, Flores is weak. A knee crumples Flores and Martinez pounds him out. π© Martinez wins by TKO
It was a bit of a freak-show. Martinez doesn’t manage his thick frame very well, and he eats shots. Flores has no power and is a little toothless in attack – Flores has a long way to go though, a cool move for him would be to take 1-2 fights a year and just grow into the fight game. I’m glad that he has footwork and some head movement
Jonathan Walker vs Keron Reed – Bantamweight
Round 1
Reed looks a little too relaxed. Walker is a scrambly, technical fighter and his style lets Reed look lazy. Walker looks reckless though.
Round 2
Walker gets taken down and beat up for a little bit, and is just 2nd best on the wrestling exchanges.
Round 3
Walker keeps wanting to wrestle but he doesn’t have the strength for it. He gets beaten down at the end of the round. π© Reed wins by unanimous decision.
Walker needs to get stronger, and he needs to train some serious jiu jitsu. His style is erratic and high pace, but it seems as if he’s not built for for it. Reed is a lazy fighter and relies a lot of his physical tools. Early days for both these guys.
Tony Toro vs Blue Vasquez – Bantamweight
Round 1
Toro bounces well and throws some good kicks. Vasquez looks slow. Toro has success with his kicks early on.
Round 2
Toro has his head on a swivel and is beating Vasquez on the feet and striking very well. Toro also has a very good sprawl.
Round 3
Toro continues to bounce around a get the better of the taller fight. Vasquez is able to get Toro down at the end of the round and take his back. Toro is able to escape with 10 seconds left. π© Tony Toro wins by unanimous decision.
Toro needs a couple more ammy fights against grapplers and then he’s ready to go pro IMO. His movement is better than a lot of professionals and his style looks advanced. Vasquez needs to work on his hand speed and he needs to learn how to use his frame better. Toro is easily the more advanced fighter.
Dean Fraire vs Jorge Cruz – Flyweight
Round 1
Kicks from Fraire. Both fighters are looking to find their range.
Round 2
More feeling out. A lot of light apprehensive stuff. Fraire seems to throw a lot of karate strikes.
Round 3
Fraire rocks Cruz with an overhand right, but is still cautious and nothing comes of the opportunity. π© Fraire wins by unanimous decision.
Early days for both fighters. It had the feel of a sparring match. Fraire has a wide variety of strikes and Cruz has a lot to work on.
Isaac Moreno is unbroken
