So, the LFA is back. The show took a very long break, and the pandemic really crushed some of the fighters. The pandemic is doing a number on all contractors actually. Its not good, but, we are slowly trying to get back to where we were. The LFA was in Sioux Falls South Dakota for LFA 84
Main Event
Justin Gonzales vs Jake Childers – Featherweight
Round 1
Gonzales boxes up Childers, lands a big knee, takes Childers down and pounds on him.
Round 2
Gonzales rocks Childers then tries to go to work on the ground again. Childers uses a Kimura to turn the tables, going for a Rear Naked Choke, a head and arm choke and a von Flue choke. Gonzales scrambles out of all of them.
Round 3
Gonzales keeps it standing, and beat Childers up, he pounds on his body and puts together a 10-8 round
Round 4
Gonzales continues to pound on Childers, and gets the stoppage. 🚩Gonzales wins by TKO
Gonzales was supposed to be in the UFC after his Contender Series Performance. He’s a No-Brainer now after winning the LFA featherweight title. He has solid wrestling, nice hands and a good fight IQ. I like that he was able to realize that Childers was super-tough, and that he needed to go to the body to get the win. -I like Childers too! but his striking needs technical work. He was out of his depth in the striking department. -Muay Thai is what he needs. If Childers can figure the striking game out, I can see him becoming very successful.
Maycon Mendonca vs Kassius Kayne – Welterweight
Round 1
Kayne is throwing heavy, and Mendonca ties him up and slams him to the ground and lands some shots.
Round 2
Kaynes arms are probably filled with lactic acid, and he’s striking to strike with Mendonca. Mendonca lands a spinning back kick to the body, and Kayne shoots and gets a desperation takedown. Mendonca is able to wrap up a triangle to get the win. 🚩Mendonca wins by submission.
I dont know if Mendonca is getting better, or if he just had good fortune in this fight. He was able to grapple with Kayne and take a lot of steam off Kayne’s strikes. He says that he’s “born again” so, we’ll see.
Sean West vs Boston Salmon – 150 lbs
Round 1
West lands leg kicks and Salmon is counter-striking.
Round 2
Both get into a firefight and West knocks down Salmon, he then races in with a violent running knee that knocks Salmon out cold. *One thing though, Salmon’s knee was down on the canvas. 🚩Boston Salmon wins by Disqualification.
West looked good for the most part. He lacked a little patience, and he needs to be more polished in the striking department. Salmon was counter-striking for the majority of the fight, before that horrible knee.
Kamuela Kirk vs Bruno Souza – Featherweight
Round 1
Strange, apprehensive from both
Round 2
Kirk has poor footwork, and is slow. Souza is just hitting and running
Round 3
Kirk scores some points but backs off, and only throws a couple of shots at a time. 🚩Souza wins by Split decision.
Both guys don’t look that great. Kirk doesn’t look confident with his hands, and Souza’s first thought is always to run
Jake Childers was unbroken in the loss
