OK, so UFC 250 was an interesting one. especially the Main card. The main card was one of those that needed an audience. My picks were probably the worst I’ve had since I started this. But whatever. I’ve been struggling with a B12 deficiency, and trying to get back on my feet. Everybody has been struggling, the last few months. Anyway enough with the excuses.
Amanda Nunes vs Felicia Spencer
I got this one right. Spencer’s striking has not leveled up. In my opinion she needs to delve deep into boxing. She already has a nice footwork game, but her hands are pretty slow, and her punches don’t seem to do any damage. Boxing gym. Boxing gym. Boxing gym. After she felt Nunes’ power in round 1, she was gun-shy for the entire fight.
Cody Garbrandt vs Raphael Assuncao
I got this wrong. Garbrandt was ready for the comeback. The coaching situation for Garbrandt looks good right now. Very Impressive KO
Aljamain Sterling vs Cory Sandhagen
OK so you cant make mistakes if you dont fight for a long period of time. I’m guessing that Sandhagen underestimated Sterling’s backpack game. Sterling’s next fight has got to be for the title. Cory Sandhagen vs Song Yadong? I’d wanna see it.
Neil Magny vs Anthony Rocco Martin
I thought Magny won all three rounds like the two judges said. I dont know why Joe Rogan what watching when he was calling that fight. Magny had the edge in the striking stats and got hit good only once. Needless to say, I got this one right.
Sean O’Malley vs Eddie Wineland
O’Malley was trying to set up Wineland for a spinkick finish that never came, he had to settle for a highlight reel KO. Sugar Sean was just a bad matchup for Wineland. Sean O’Malley vs Dominick Cruz? -Kinda like a changing of the guard type of fight… I’d like to see that. People would wanna see if O’Malley can deal with some experience and maybe some wrestling.
Alex Caceres vs Chase Hooper
Chase Hooper isn’t ready for the UFC right now. And the fact that he beat Daniel Teymur makes Daniel Teymur not ready for the UFC. The striking just isn’t where it should be. I dont think I’ve ever seen Caceres drop anyone with a strike until now. There is so much talent at 145, I dont know who Hooper should face. I can see the UFC throwing new guys to him. I’d like to see Caceres vs Daniel Teymur now.
Ian Heinisch vs Gerald Meerschaert
Heinisch needed this win, but the bad thing is we didn’t get to see if he’s better at mixing his striking with his grappling. but what a lovely TKO though.
Cody Stamann vs Brian Kelleher
Stamann looked good at 145. I agree with Joe Rogan. He just had more vitality. Kelleher is not an easy out and he was able to fend him off and get the win. I got this wrong.
Maki Pitolo vs Charles Byrd
Speaking of guys that look good at a higher weight class. Pitolo looked strong and seasoned. Byrd also looked strong, but he looked super sloppy.
Alex Perez vs Jussier Formiga
I’ve been sleeping on Alex Perez. Very impressive showing. Formiga could never close the distance. Also when you are being leg kicked, you can do three things. 1. You can start leg kicking your opponent, 2 You can come forward and take away the leg kicking range. 3. You can check the leg kicks- The third one does not work against a seasoned Muay Thai fighter. What you dont do, is stay in leg kicking range and just eat them.
Devin Clark vs Alonzo Menifield
Sloppy fight. Menifield had his gas tank tested a little bit, and he did not pass the test. He needs a little more time in the Muay Thai clinch game IMO. There are times when you have to go balls to the wall, and there are times when you have to be patient and technical. Its a process.
Herbert Burns vs Evan Dunham
The Burns boys are are dangerous, and they are only getting better. I think it would be in the interest of a lot of UFC fighters to fight Herbert Burns now, before he blows up and improves his striking even more.
The O’Malley call remains unBroken
5/12 is abysmal
