What happened at UFC 238?

Here are my picks

Henry Cejudo vs. Marlon Moraes

I got this fight right. Cejudo did weather that storm and I knew that he had to put some pressure on Moraes. I just thought that it would go longer. It looks like Moraes wilts under pressure-phonebooth fighting. It was right-hooks and knees from Cejudo, as he got the win. AND I love Cejudo’s little gimmicks, the dude was called boring, but now the man is fun and smooth, and a fantastic fighter. He called out some OLD folks in his post fight speech though. He should’ve called out Ricky Simon and Cory Sandhagen, if he wanted to be legit.

Valentina Shevchenko vs. Jessica Eye

I wrote an article called “Why MMA is not a sport” and this fight proves my article. This is not a game. People get hurt-hurt badly. DC was quick to point out that Shevchenko set up the head kicks with the body kicks, on the broadcast, that’s because DC got set up the same way, by Jon Jones. Valentina was playing ZERO games in there. Even the Americana that she hit in the first round of the fight was an arm-breaking Americana. She’s like the over-achiever that you went to High School with

Tony Ferguson vs. Donald Cerrone

I got this one right again. Ferguson has the most interesting style I’ve ever seen in MMA, he fights in close quarters, but he has superb head movement, and he’s soooooooooo loose. He doesn’t have a tense muscle in his body. I think the fight shouldve been a No Contest though, only because Ferguson fired that illegal shot after the bell. -And here’s the deal, the commentators said that Cerrone’s eye swole up because he blew his nose, and Ferguson punched Cerrone in the nose after the bell. El Cucuy is so interesting.

Jimmie Rivera vs. Petr Yan

I nailed this one. Rivera can and should win this fight, I just think he has bad coaching. I don’t know if a cornerman can tell a fighter to, “Let him Knock you out”- it just doesnt seem constructive. Petr Yan is a real fighter – I think he may have what it takes to beat Cejudo actually.

Tai Tuivasa vs. Blagoy Ivanov

Got this one wrong. Maybe a young Mark Hunt would not beat Ivanov. Ivanov is just farmer-strong, and he has a hard head. Technique beats him, not mauling power – I think

Tatiana Suarez vs. Nina Ansaroff

I got this one right, but I’m a little concerned because I heard that Suarez might have some neck problems – Neck problems for wrestlers are bad, very bad, heck, neck problems for anyone are very bad. Suarez didnt look as sharp as she looked in other fights – I think some of that technical wrestling speed is gone

Aljamain Sterling vs. Pedro Munhoz

Munhoz is willing the EAT a shot to get on the inside. Its very dangerous, he must have the Justin Gaethje gene or something. Sterling should be the next one up for a title shot.

Karolina Kowalkiewicz vs. Alexa Grasso

As I said before, both of these ladies are soft. Just soft in different ways. KK has poor footwork and a bad stand up game, but has fantastic heart, and Grasso has a good boxing game, but can not deal with adversity. I thought the experience would get KK through, but now I just believe that she’s a stepping stone for other fighters.

Ricardo Lamas vs. Calvin Kattar

Lamas is now a stepping stone. I’m not high on Kattar either

Xiaonan Yan vs. Angela Hill

Angela Hill loses a close one. Hill has exciting fights, and always looks as if she’s starting off great, but she’s so frustrating. After she gets a little tired her hands drop, he footwork stops, and she just puts herself in bad situations. I think she needs some training in Colorado

Bevon Lewis vs. Darren Stewart

Bevon Lewis decided that he did not want to get knocked out in this fight, so he decided to run all fight and lose via unanimous decision. I think Darren Stewart can hold his head high. – I initially called a first round KO here.

Katlyn Chookagian vs. Joanne Calderwood

I have Calderwood winning this one, but I thought the fight was very close. The judges scores are the only one that matters, and they have Chookagian winning, which is fantastic in my book, because now Jojo looks like an idiot for celebrating when she did. – Stupid showboating as well.

Eddie Wineland vs Grigory Popov

Lmao. I showed Eddie Wineland so much disrespect when I picked a fighter that I didnt even know over him, but I’d actually do it again
