Obligatory UFC event. Kinda like a TUF manufactured event. I never watch TUF. Dont know anything about it. I dont need to personally get to know a fighter to like how they fight, or want to see them fight. Volk takes on Ortega.
Alexander Volkanovski
vs
Brian Ortega
Ok, So its been a while since Volkanovski defended his belt. But here we are. I think that Volkanovski knows that Max Holloway beat him in their last fight, and he’ll be better. I just think Volk is more technical, and I think if it goes to the ground, Volk has good enough wrestling to get out of itread more
One particularly memorable fight on the card. Its a shame that the Judges got the winner of this fight wrong.
Israel Adesanya vs Yoel Romero
I said that Romero was not a worthy title contender. I was right. Romero threw everything away in this fight, because nothing was earned. Do you think if Romero was on a 5 fight win streak and was grinding out victories, he’d do this? Not a chance. Romero was fighting like a title wasn’t on the line. Garbage.
Zhang Weili vs Joanna Jedrzejczyk
I got this wrong, but I also think the wrong lady won. I had Joanna winning this fight. I was scoring each round. I tell you what though. If this was a Muay Thai fight with Thai rules, I think Zhang wins, but I think Jedrzejczyk should have got the victory here. One thing is certain, when people reference UFC 248, this will be the fight that they look back on. Rematch…read more
I’m not thrilled about this UFC 248. You know what? It kinda seems like a fight night card. This one to me kinda feels like a UFC XXX money grab, but that’s what they do now. Bellator needs a ranking system so people can keep up with what’s in the mix, and the LFA needs a bigger platform, and it needs to differentiate itself from all of the other smaller promotions. -Those are the two biggest US competitors, with the UFC IMO.
Anyway….
Israel Adesanya
vs
Yoel Romero
OK, so Yoel Romero is NOT a worthy challenger. Of course he’s good, he’s tough, He’s a physical specimen, but he lost his last two fights. Losing gets you a title shot? Jeeze-louise, I mean, at least feed him a lower ranked guy and let him get a win before challenging for the title. I think this fight came around because of Joe Rogan. Rogan has certain UFC perks, and one of them is calling for fights that he wants to see, on his big platform. I think this is what happened here. OK, since I have no power, no say, and I have to accept that this fight is going to happen, here’s how it’s going to go: Adesanya will beat the hell out of Yoel Romero. From Round 2 – onwards, Adesanya will out-strike Romero and batter him and he will make it look easy. Now Romero is super tough, so he might not get finished, but, he will get his ass worked. In the end it will be a comprehensive victory for Adesanya. Why is this going to happen? Mobility, Adesanya has it and Romero does not. Its just a bad matchup for Romero, again, NOT a worthy title challengerread more
The UFC is doing the right thing by skipping a week and allowing people to talk about the the UFC 247 card coming up. Its in Houston, and its pretty big. Any card with Jon Jones is pretty big.
Jon Jones
vs
Dominick Reyes
I think this is a big fight for Jones. He’s coming off the Thiago Santos Split decision – I think he lost that fight – And he’s gonna want to prove that he’s still the top dog. Reyes is undefeated, and is a worthy contender. Jones’ game is always evolving, I want to see if it’s still evolving.read more
So that pesky little Irishman rears his head. I dont really care. I dont care at all. Yeah, I watched him about five years ago, and I was invested then, but I’m not invested now. There are other fights at UFC 246 that I want to see, so he can just move on and sell whiskey or do whatever he does. Anyway, the stakes are ridiculous. So, if said Irishman were to win, he’d face Khabib –if he wins, at a lower weight class. It makes absolutely no sense. I think the UFC knows it makes no sense, but they’re willing to screw hardcore fans to appease the casual fans. Casual fans probably don’t even know what weight class McGregor fights at, so who cares?? This might as well just be a grudge match for that little verbal spat that they had at that press conference, a few years ago.read more
This was a stand up war, and both these guys are warriors. I knew that Covington had great cardio and a good engine, but I didn’t know that he was such a warrior. He told his corner that his jaw was broken, and they let him down. They should’ve pulled the plug right then. The corner man also said that Usman was “breaking” LMAO. That dude said the champ was “breaking” 10 minutes in. He didn’t say that he had a broken hand or a broken foot, he was saying that Kamaru Usman’s will was breaking. He was basically saying that Usman didn’t want to fight anymore. Why do cornermen lie to their fighters? Is this just fight corner filler? Usman got the win and I picked this fight rightread more
OK, so the atmosphere was fire. The name recognition was there, and the fights were good. I think it was a successful UFC. Tough guys were 0 for 4 on this card, and boy, were my picks wrong 🙁 worst of the year
Tough guy no. 4 The fight started out like I thought it would, it didn’t end like I thought it would, but, I think all that is academical. Masvidal was going to beat Nate Diaz to a bloody pulp, and if they fight in Vegas, for a rematch, gamebred would paint the canvas red with Nate’s blood. I think Masvidal wants the fight, because its a very easy paycheck for him. That is all. This was my unbroken pick, and I missed the round call, but eh… it wasn’t bad.read more
Stacked card here. Now this is a real UFC XXX event. UFC 244 brings it
Jorge Masvidal
vs
Nate Diaz
So the BMF title is not a real belt, but it’s even more important than a real belt. The winner of it can call his shot. The winner can move up or down in any weight-class and challenge who ever he wants. There is enormous clout here. Other fighters will want to fight the BMF champion and take his title from him. It is real, but then again, not real. I think the pick is cut and dry here. Jorge Masvidal will dominate Nate Diaz, I foresee a 2nd round finish, I really want to say 1st round, but Diaz is known for his toughnessread more
I’m trying to think of worst Pay-per-view cards. I care sooo little about most of these fights on this show that I debated whether I should put my picks up or not. Other than both main events, this card is lacking. Like seriously lacking. Many of the other fighters are having their first or second fights in the UFC, or they’re coming off long lay-offs. I have no problem with them putting these fighters on a “Fight night” but I always thought the “UFC XXX” cards were special. Guess notread more
So, you’d think that an Abu Dhabi card would be stacked. You’d think that every fighter and the mother, would want to get on that card, so they could tell all their friends and family that they fought in Abu Dhabi. It looks so good on a fighter’s resume, doesn’t it? I think the card is a little bland and I’m actually more intrigued by the ESPN Vancouver card.
Khabib Nurmagomedov
vs
Dustin Poirier
Its a big surprise that I pick Khabib, huh? I think Poirier is a good challenger, and I think he’s very strong at 155, but I just don’t think he has what it takes to deal with the wrestling. In my opinion Ferguson should be fighting for the tittle anyway.read more
