LFA 64: Round by Round results

I usually love the LFA. Every time I watch a show they usually show me someone new and that is interesting, not today. This Sioux Falls, South Dakota show was a little disappointing. A lot of fighters at the local level definitely have what it takes to to fight at the next level, but the fighters on this particular card have to make massive improvements if they what to move up

Main Event

Demarques Jackson vs Harvey Park – Lightweight

Round 1

Park is so stiff, he’s just asking to get KOed. He fights a little bit like Justin Gaethje- anyway Park eats a few combos in the beginning. Park throws some kicks to create distance and then he rocks Jackson with a right hand. He puts Jackson on the ground and then he rains down punches. The referee stops it at the bell. 🚩 Park wins by TKO

Park is the LFA lightweight champion now. Like Justin Gaethje, he fights very smart and very stupid at the same time. He doesn’t move his head, he has terrible footwork and he just plain out eats shots, but his timing is good and his offensive fight IQ is very good. A good technical striker would love this fight. The referee stopped this fight too quick, as I thought Jackson was intelligently defending himself on the ground. Jackson looked good on the feet until Park started throwing kicks – I didnt see much after that.

Jason Jackson vs Scott Futrell – 180 lbs

Round 1

Jackson starts throwing combos and eventually takes Futrell down. He sinks in a D’arce but cant finish it. Jackson continues to wrestle and Futrell continues to hang on.

Round 2

Jackson gets Futrell down and proceeds to put him in wrestle-hell. He sinks in another D’arce on Futrell, but Futrell is immune to his D’arces. Jackson wrestles to a different position and sinks in an arm triangle . 🚩 Jackson wins by Submission.

Jackson looks a little weak in the standup game which is a little odd for a Jamaican. I am a Jamaican, and I know that we like our striking techniques. Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai. I expected all of that. I didnt expect wrestling. It would be interesting to see if Jackson would compete in The Rough Fight League – An MMA promotion in Jamaica – People there need to see a little wrestling. Futrell has a high upside – He needs Muay Thai work and he needs some BJJ work, and he needs to fight with bad intentions.

Bobby Lee vs Jordan Larson – 165 lbs

Round 1

Lee is a picture of concentration and is keeping it tight and capitalizing with small shots. Larson is unable to really pull the trigger for some reason. Larson goes for a takedown at the end of the round. Lee goes down but uses his hips to reverse the position. The round finishes with Lee on top in side control.

Round 2

Larson starts off by running away and Lee starts to chase him. Lee eventually shoots in and works to take the back, he sinks in a RNC and Larson taps. 🚩 Lee wins by Submission.

Bobby Lee is an average local MMA fighter, unless there are massive improvements I don’t see him being champion of any organization. Lee can be very offensively aggressive though, and that counts for something. Larson was fighting like he a guy on short notice. – He looked very bad.

Bryce Logan vs Kenn Glenn – Lightweight

Round 1

Logan is just throwing more volume than Glenn. Glenn is relatively flatfooted and is playing a hit and run game.

Round 2

Logan cracks Glenn with a couple of good shots and its obvious that he is trying to get on the inside. Glenn pulls guard and Logan is unable to capitalize. Glenn is throwing all of his shots with the parking break on.

Round 3

Bryce Logan keeps getting his takedown stuffed. Kenn Glenn keeps throwing reserved shots. Logan gets the takedown at the end of the round. 🚩 Logan wins by Split decision

Bryce Logan is more of a talent in the match up, but it really was a forgettable performance, both guys lacked they creativity part on the MMA check list.

Brian Peterson vs Ryan Debelak – Heavyweight

Round 1

Debelak rocks Peterson. Peterson looks super slow – it looks dangerous. Peterson is a punching bag. This fight is horrible. Peterson takes Debelak down and lays his humongous gut on him. He then gets up and lets his opponent up.

Round 2

Peterson continues to eat shots to the face. Debelak is gassed. Heck. They both are gassed.

Round 3

The slow motion bum fight continues. Peterson shoots in and takes Debelak down. They get back up and the slow motion fight continues. Horrible. 🚩 Debelak wins by Unanimous decision.

Peterson is playing a very dangerous game with his life. Debelak punched himself out on his face. Debelak looked to be in good heavyweight shape, but he had no technique.

Tyler Ray vs Sam Garrett – Welterweight

Round 1

Both guys start off tentative. Ray gets him down easily and gets in a a high half guard position. He has a hard time punishing his opponent. Garrett is not very dangerous off his back.

Round 2

Tyler Ray has Michael Johnson in his corner- For what thats worth. A lot of people like Michael Johnson as a fighter, but I always viewed him as quite Heartless. Maybe he’s a better corner man though. Anyway Ray hits Garrett with a slow right and puts him down. Garrett survives and gets put in a bad spot. Ray continues to dominate his opponent on the ground. He puts Garrett in an arm triangle and gets him out of there. 🚩 Ray wins by submission.

Garrett is a lamb. We all know what happens to lambs. Ray does not look aggressive on the ground – I could be so wrong about this fight, because maybe Ray knew that Garrett was a lamb and wanted to work his Jiu Jitsu. This is what happens when the match ups are so bad.
