Best in Texas 2020

Best in Texas 2020

We’ve had a rough year for MMA in 2020. There are so many fighters that missed out on their development this year and I’m pretty sure a lot of fighters had to quit MMA, because of the pandemic, but hopefully a lot of real fighters still have that spark and continue to train and get better. Some people say that you should never have a plan B. – 😅 I’m an advocate for plan Bs, and plan Cs and plan Qs, because you never know what life’s gonna throw at you, There is a vaccine now, and I’ve heard that its effective, so hopefully in 2021 we can all put this 2020 madness behind us. I dont know how the vaccine will work, but I’m hopeful. Just hopeful. read more

Best in Texas 2019

Best in Texas 2019

So, I’ve seen a lot of fights in 2019. Ofcourse I havent seen everyone, but, I’ll go with the stuff I know. So here are my top 5 rankings, in weight divisions in Texas. Ofcourse, guys in larger organizations are excluded

Women

  • Desiree Yanez
  • Vanessa Demopoulos
  • Courtney King
  • Hailey Cowan
  • Audrey Wolfe

Women have a tough time in the fight game in general. They may need to travel to get fights, They may need to move up and down in weight classes, and sometimes life just gets in the way. A lot of good female fighters in Texas never really move on from the Amateur scene. Id really like to put Sam Hughes on this list. She’s fought in Texas a couple of times, but she really is from the PNW. She’d be number 1 or 2 on this list. Demopoulos fights out of California, but she’s had several fights in Texas read more

What was unBROKEN in 2019?

What was unBROKEN in 2019?

Jan. 12 At XKO 44. The Hooters girls were unbroken – I’m not really a horn-dog per se, but for some reason those Hooters girls at the show did something for me. Also The rap music mixed with Tejano was unbroken. – It was more of rap music mashed up with Tejano, I’ve never heard that before, and I was impressed.

Jan 18. At LFA 57 Taylor Johnson was unbroken – The man ran through Aaron Chambers. I was also a little surprised that he was stopped by Jiu Jitsu ace Andre Muniz on the Contender Series. Sometimes they let too savages fight each other on that show read more

XKO 47 Results

XKO 47 Results

XKO was at Texas Live! with 10 fights. The show was called XKO 47: Friday night fight night. I think Texas live is a definite upgrade to the Gas Monkey venue. The Arlington complex is a Sports play ground. Its just restaurants, drinks, and giant TVs, and they try to mix the outdoor with the indoor as best as they can. XKO is such a strong promotion. They dont use a lot of gimmicks, and they just put on good fights. They are not afraid of having an all female prelim card and a female main-card all in one night, bold, I love it read more

Contender Series grades

ALL CONTENDER SERIES 2019 GRADES

So, I’ve been watching the contender series, and I’m hoping to see some guys that I’ve seen on the local scene. After 2 weeks, the talent looks dry. I think the show set up some of their preferred fighters to shine and they failed.

Here are grades of some of the talent on the show. These grades are only based on their Contender Series performance, and not their performance before in other organizations

Yorgan De Castro, Punahele Soriano, Miles Johns & Miguel Baeza got picked from this batch. read more

How to know if you’re a casual MMA fan

How to know if you’re a casual MMA fan

I don’t watch a lot of soap operas, but when I was little, I couldn’t ignore the fact that there was a doll that came to life on “Passions” – and I know a lot of people could not couldn’t ignore it either, because it was a very popular show. MMA is getting to be a little like that. People like popular talking points, people like drama. Okay here’s another example to get my point across – So I was hanging out at a local bar that I go by after work and I was talking to the bartender, and I was asking her if she liked MMA and she said, “no, I don’t like MMA but, I like Conor McGregor, because he talks a lot of shit”, and I said, “You don’t like his karate style? You don’t like his left hand? You don’t like how quick he is? Do you only like his talking game? and she said “Yes, I just like how he disrespects people and the whole back and fourth.” She went on to tell me that her favorite pro-wrestler was The Undertaker, and that she doesn’t really like wrestling either, but she enjoys the pageantry of it all – This is what the casual fan is. Back when I was 14, I didnt care about about Soap Operas, I didnt care anything about the story, all that I was focused on, is that a doll named Timmy came to life. read more

XKO 45: Prelims and Blog Post

Check out the XKO 45 Main card

So XKO 45 took place on 4/27/19 and that was a fantastic show. The XKO events are always organized and seem to have an interesting feel to them. This show was in the new Texas Live complex which – I heard will be the biggest entertainment complex in the state of Texas. The square cage was outdoors, with shade from the building being constructed and natural light coming in – The humongous Dallas Cowboys stadium is just in the background. The fighters were local and very very very good. I was impressed with the production team. I was impressed with the pacing, I was impressed with the parking situation read more

Why MMA is not a Sport

Why MMA is not a Sport

MMA is not a sport. Punching someone in the face is not something that is fun, and it is not a “sporting” thing to do. It is not fun for the person punching, and it is definitely not fun for the person getting punched. It is only fun for the individual watching all of this.

BJJ is a sport. Wrestling is a sport. Boxing is not a sport. An event cannot be a sport when your opponent is trying to change your life. Can you really call an activity a sport when you’re trying to hurt someone? MMA is not just about physical performance, it’s called “the hurt business” for a reason. read more
