So the LFA travel to Madison, Wisconsin for LFA 70. The crowd was rowdy, the fights were good, but the talent looked to be just so-so, to be honest. I watched the pros compete.
Main Event
Renan Ferreira vs Brett Martin – Heavyweight
Round 1
Ferreira is 6’10 and 249 lbs. Martin is 6 foot, 265 with a substantial amount of blubber on him. Ferreira hits Martin with some shots. Martin goes for the clinch, and tries to trip Ferreira. The Brazilian ends up on top and delivers several blows to the back of the head. The ref stops the action and Ferreira loses 2 points. The fight restarts and Martin counters a lowkick and gets Ferriera down. Martin goes into side-control and looks for a d’arce. Ferreira is able to twist out of it and fire some more shots to the back of Martin’s head. Renan Ferreira gets DQed.🚩 Martin wins by disqualification.
Ferreira has great physical tools, but for some reason he couldn’t get it going. He looks like he’s easily out-wrestled. I think the ref could’ve tried to warn the fighter a little better, but I think the right decision was made. Martin looks very poor on the feet, and he needs a lot of work.
Mark Lemminger vs Isaac Steele – Welterweight
Round 1
Steele bounces around with a traditional boxing style. He clinches and feeds Lemminger some knees against the cage. Steele gets taken down, and both fighters eventually get back to their feet. Lots of phonebooth fighting.
Round 2
The stand up from both guys look very toothless. Lemminger goes in and clinches, gets a guillotine and gets the tap. 🚩 Lemminger wins by submission.
Both guys have very basic standup. Lemminger seems to have better wrestling, but both guys are fairly green and didnt stand out to me.
Jamey Simmons vs Jake Childers – Featherweight
Round 1
Simmons goes for what looks like a take down and runs into a knee, he then gets put into a guillotine and the fight ends. 🚩 Childers wins by KO/tech submission.
So the knee kinda put Simmons out, then the guillotine kinda furthered his quest to unconsciousness. Good stoppage by the referee. We learn nothing about either fighter in this fight, but thats gotta be a nice easy paycheck for Childers
Rmandel Cameron vs Dante Schiro – Welterweight
Round 1
Cameron bounces well and gives some looks like he knows what he’s doing on the feet. Schiro clinches, takes the back, and takes Cameron down. Schiro is able to get his opponent in a triangle for a long time, but he cant seem to finish it.
Round 2
Cameron throws some 1-2s, but looks slow. Schiro doesn’t have the skill to hurt his opponent and both guys look toothless in the standup.
Round 3
They clinch. Schiro is able to get the takedown, and he eventually gets to mount, and is able to rain down punches. They get back up and the fight ends with more toothless fighting on the feet. 🚩 Schiro wins by unanimous decison
Cameron has a lot to work on. His wrestling needs work, his stand up needs work, and he just needs to get technique down. Schiro needs to improve his striking game and his jiu jitsu.
Gonzalo Ponce vs Lloyd McKinney – 130 lbs
Round 1
McKinney throws a head kick and a straight right and goes for the takedown. Lloyd McKinney gets locked in a guillotine, he is able to escape and get Ponce in a triangle. McKinney survives 2 slams and gets the tap. 🚩 McKinney wins by submission.
I feel like Ponce was just reacting to his opponent in this fight. McKinney was the most impressive to me on the card. Even though his fight was short
Pierre Walters vs Alex Polizzi – Light Heavyweight
Round 1
Polizzi gets the clinch early, and he really looks like a beefed up Mike Perry. Polizzi gets a single leg, and gets the takedown, he goes to full mount and rains down punches on Walters. Walters looks clueless on the ground. 🚩Polizzi wins by TKO
Polizzi has the lumbering style like Mike Perry, and he just looks powerful. He does look a little slow on the feet. Walters looks very soft, he has great physical tools but he needs to work on a lot.
I really wanted to see Wyatt Barber. If he’s anything like his sister, he will be fantastic
Jeremiah Wells is unbroken for the KO that he got at CFFC on 6/14/2019 in Pennsylvania . It was like his opponent got hit with a tranquiler dart. He’ll be must see TV when he goes to the UFC
