LFA 61: Round by round results

The LFA was in Prior Lake, MN. The main card was a little bland, but learned about the fighters, and we saw what some of the local talent had to offer.

Main Event

Moses Murrietta vs Brendan Allen – Middleweight

Round 1

Allen comes out hard and takes Murrietta down. Murrietta looks like he’s out of ideas when he’s on his back, and Allen looks slow on top. At times Allen is just holding Murrietta down

Round 2

Murrietta comes out hard. Allen comes back with a combo of his own and then takes Murrietta down. Allen gets in full mount and begins to throw short shots, but he’s not doing a lot of work

Round 3

Leg kick start this round off. Allen is able to get the takedown, and it is now obvious that Murrietta can do nothing about Allen on top of him.

Round 4

Allen drops Murrietta with a right hand and then gets in full mount. Allen opens up Murrietta with elbows.

Round 5

More of the same. Murrietta’s blood is all over the canvas. Allen is dropping down elbows. Murrietta has no Jiu Jitsu to help him. He never shrimps, and he just covers up and gets blasted. Domination.🚩 Allen wins by Unanimous decision.

This is a story of one guy having zero ground game. It makes me wonder why Murrietta is fighting for a title. We didnt even get to see Allen’s full MMA game because Murrietta’s ground game was so limited.

Nate Jennerman vs Ken Beverly – Featherweight

Round 1

Jennerman rocks Beverly and goes for the submission. Beverly is able to escape a guillotime, a d’arce and a leglock, he is also able to get top position on Jennerman for a while, and the two have a grappling match.

Round 2

The two clinch, and Beverly begins to elbow Jennerman. The ref separates the two and takes a point from Beverly for an illegal elbow to the head. Beverly continues to out wrestle his opponent and survive submissions. Beverly then strikes Jennerman with a punch to the back of the head and the ref separates them and takes two points from Beverly. Beverly as lost a total of 3 points in this round.

Round 3

The grappling match continues. Jennerman’s submissions aint working. Beverly is coming out on top in the wrestling department, but its too late. 🚩 Jennerman wins by Majority decision.

Jennerman got exposed in this fight. His Jits is not very tight, and his wrestling is lackluster. Beverly, on the other hand, has a huge upside. He needs to work on his hands and his Jits a little more, but his wrestling looks very good, and he seems to just have great natural instincts.

Lloyd McKinney vs Sid Bice – Flyweight

Round 1

Bice bounces around very well and throws great combos. McKinney is a little slower and more apprehensive even though he’s the longer fighter. Bice gets a takedown at the end of the round.

Round 2

Bice takes McKinney down and begins to work on top. The referee decides that he doesn’t want to see that kind of fight and stands the fighters up. Bice then takes McKinney down again.

Round 3

McKinney gets a little bit of life in him and takes Bice down. He flips the script and controls the last round and even threatens with some submissions, but its too late. 🚩 Bice wins by Unanimous decision.

McKinney should just be fighting like he wants the finish from the get go, not when he needs to finish to win. Bice looked quick and competent on the feet. He might need to work on his wrestling game some more

Josh Marsh vs Jake Childers – Featherweight

Round 1

Childers is just looking for the takedown. He’s striking looks bad, but Marsh cant seem to capitalize.

Round 2

Childers keeps going for the takedown and Marsh keeps defending lazily. He comes to life at the end of the second round and scores with some knees and elbows.

Round 3

More phone-booth fighting. Childers takes Marsh’s back at one point. More lazy fighting by Marsh, and he gets taken down and beaten up at the end of the round. 🚩 Childers wins by Unanimous decision.

Marsh has great physical tools, but he’s just not dynamic, he let Childers lead the dance the entire fight. Childers is a one trick pony, and his style can be countered very easily. He needs to improve his hands and set up his takedowns better.

Nick Ammerman vs Dionisio Ramirez – Welterweight

Round 1

Ammerman’s boxing style looks good. Ramirez leaves himself open and takes risks and Ammerman was quick to punish him a few times. Ramirez cuts Ammerman late in the round.

Round 2

Ammerman takes Ramirez down, then lets him back up. He looks more talented than Ramirez, but he does not want to pull the trigger. Ramirez seems to be fighting with bad intentions in this fight – more so than Ammerman.

Round 3

Ammerman will not go for the kill when he rocks his opponent and is fighting for points. 🚩 Ammerman wins by Unanimous decision.

Ammerman’s traditional boxing style opens him up to leg kicks. His striking isn’t very diverse. Ramirez has very risky striking, and he could have easily gotten KOed in this fight if his opponent was more aggressive. Both guys decided to not really go to the ground for this one.
