I remember when I used to want to watch Fury FC and I couldn’t, lol I remember watching Fury FC online, and I was watching fights that were streamed by Mike “The Truth” Jackson. Now Fury is on FightPass, The camera work is a little slow, but the production is a lot better and the talent is still very rich
Main Event
Nico Echeverry vs Le’Ville Simpson – Lightweight
Round 1
Very technical round with Simpson using some good footwork
Round 2
Technical, until Simpson scores a highkick and drops Echeverry, and then follows up with some ground and pound. 🚩Simpson wins by TKO
I was impressed with Simpson’s movement and shot selection, but at times he looked like he was just trying to score points. Even though Simpson looked good, he lacked a little bit of brutality to his game. Echeverry looked dangerous, but his footwork wasn’t that great. He had a good work-rate, but he was getting outmatched by Simpson’s physical tools. Simpson has a lot of room to grow. I’ll be watching him
Kenn Glenn vs Will Morris – Lightweight
Round 1
Glenn is seeing a lot of the shots. Morris lands a big knee and punches and gets a takedown at the end of the round.
Round 2
Glenn gets 2 takedowns in this round, on the 2nd one he works to the back and locks up the RNC.🚩Glenn wins by submission
I’ve been wanting to see Will Morris for a very very long time. At one time Morris was highly rated in Texas, but…I dont think so anymore, Morris only used his physical tools in this fight, I saw nothing dynamic, all I saw was length and reach. Glenn on the other hand fought very well, even though he lacked physical tools, he had no problem going in and out, and when he committed to his strikes he looked crisp. I hope this big win gives Glenn some confidence, because Glenn is good, all he needs is that confidence
Josh Altum vs Frank Meno – Featherweight
Round 1
Altum clinches to get the takedown and works to get the the triangle.🚩 Altum wins by submission
Altum looks like a solid grappler. This is a fight where you dont learn too much
Morgan Oriahi vs Derrick Ageday – Welterweight
Round 1
Morgan is running and Ageday is chasing
Round 2
Oriahi hits a flying knee and strikes to finish the fight.🚩 Oriahi wins by TKO
At one time I thought Ageday was good but unlucky, now I’m seeing the holes in his game, he makes rookie mistakes, like following guys around and not cutting the cage off, and he can just generally not be mindful of his body. Even though Oriahi got a spectacular flying-knee KO, I didnt see any (other) thing impressive from him.
Cameron Smotherman vs Stephen Perez – Bantamweight
Round 1
Perez tries to grapple with Smotherman, and Smotherman shows fantastic defensive wrestling to fight out of some bad positions. Smotherman then proceeds to walk down Perez and piece him up on the feet
Round 2
Smotherman walks down Perez and Perez is running, Smotherman is picking his shots
Round 3
Same as the first, with Perez wanting to go to the ground and Smotherman telling Perez to stand up. 🚩Cameron Smotherman wins by unanimous decision
Smotherman was one of the reasons why I wanted to see this event. He IS talent. Stephen Perez came in this fight at 5-4 and Smotherman was at 1-0, and Smotherman was the one that fought like he had 9 fights under his belt. The man has a fan friendly striking style. He comes forward and throws HANDS -Promotors love this. Ok, so you say, maybe Smotherman is not well rounded, maybe guys will take him down… So far the defensive wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu looks legit. I think Smotherman will have a lot of fights where guys just want to run from him and shoot on him. I like how Smotherman likes to apply pressure to his opponents and suffocate them in the striking game. I’m a very big fan. If I was to be a little critical, Smotherman can eat a few shots when he’s trying to measure his opponents to apply pressure, but hey…
What’s next for Cameron Smotherman – He’s scheduled to be on Fury FC 46 “Looking for a fight”, and he’s facing a debuting fighter. I think the Fury FC promotion wants to give the kid a layup here. If he gets to 3-0, I can see promotions like the LFA looking at him, and there are some killer fights for him in that promotion. Smotherman might want to try to win the Fury FC Bantamweight belt because, its his local promotion, and he’s had his amateur career at Fury FC, the kid so talented, I think he can do it
Paul Garza vs John Herrera – Lightweight
Round 1
Garza throws good knees, Herrera is just reckless and getting close to Garza, both guys are very sloppy. Herrea gets Garza to the cage and drops him, and hammers him with punches and elbows on the ground
Round 2
Herrera throws Garza down and hammers him with strikes.🚩 Herrera wins by TKO
I think Herrera really finished the fight in the 1st round. Herrera has a fantastic gas tank, but can be very sloppy, it’ll be interesting to see if that sloppiness gets tamed and smoothed out. Garza didnt look bad either, but the sloppiness didnt work in his favor
John Clay vs Ricardo Evangelista – Heavyweight
Round 1
Clay shoots for a takedown, Evangelista sprawls and punches Clay on the ground. 🚩Clay taps to strikes.
Clay decided to steal Fury FCs money
Facebook Prelims
Kyle Todrank vs Chris San Nicolas – Ammy – Featherweight
Round 1
Todrank catches a kick and gets the takedown and lands some good ground and pound
Round 2
Todrank throws some good front kicks and gets the takedown and land some more ground and pound
Round 3
Todrank gets the takedown works to the back and locks in the RNC. 🚩Todrank wins by submission
San Nicolas looks a little stagnant and uninitiated, he looked like an amateur in this fight TBH. Todrank looks like a guy that knows what he’s good at -He has good kicks and a good ground game, but I dont think he’s very confident in his hands. I think that Todrank can grow, and his ceiling is pretty high
James Ford vs Jake Williams – Ammy – Heavyweight
Round 1
Williams throws some great strikes and Ford decides to wrestle. Ford lands some good strikes after a big suplex
Round 2
Williams has success with his hands, but he gets out wrestled
Round 3
Ford wrestles early, he gets Williams down and lands some good ground and pound. 🚩Ford wins by unanimous decision
This fight is very very frustrating. Williams is very talented in the stand up, But he CANNOT wrestle. -That’s the thing, that’s it. Williams need some wrestling work. Ford ONLY wrestles, Ford needs striking work. With all that being said, I think Williams needs to go professional. I’m pretty sure he knows what his weak areas are. He needs to work on them as a pro.
Jonathan King vs Trey Reimann– Ammy – Lightweight
Round 1
Reimann clinches and throws some wild strikes and gets some takedowns. King looks tired and stagnant
Round 2
Reimann punching wild and grappling, both get into a leglock situation
Round 3
Poor striking, King does some damage on the feet. Reimann gets a takedown.🚩 Reimann wins by unanimous decision
King is incredibly stiff, much better on the ground. Reimann is just wild, early days for these amateurs.
Drake Lopez vs Josh Thwang– Ammy – Flyweight
Round 1
Lopez is agressive and Thwang is more composed. Lopez is able to jump on Thwang’s back, but Thwang is able to get out of it and land some ground and pound.
Round 2
Thwang gets the takedown and does work on the ground.🚩 Thwang wins by TKO
Both these guys are talented, but Thwang is much further along. After this fight, I dont think Thwang should compete at amateur anymore, He’s got good solid hands and solid takedown defense and a fan-friendly style. Thwang can get himself caught in scrambles, and he needs a better jiu-jitsu game to get out of trouble, but he’s a solid fighter, and should definitely be a professional. Lopez needs a little more seasoning
Chris Tovar vs Hector Saenz -Ammy – Lightweight
Round 1
Sanez Karate style, cliches. Saenz throws some good strikes and shows a lot of diversity
Round 2
Sanez has good footwork, but Tovar is more accurate
Round 3
The doctor comes in to check on a cut on Saenz and stops the fight. 🚩Tovar wins by TKO
This is what happens in Amateur competition, you cant really blame anyone. I actually liked that the doctor stopped this fight. Saenz is talented, he’s a little bit wild and inaccurate, but hopefully he clears that up before he goes pro. He has a very good canvas to work with. Tovar is also good, but Tovar’s footwork, very bad
Hope Holmes vs Dania Cruz – Ammy – 110
Round 1
Feeling out. Holmes takes Cruz down, and Cruz locks up a quick armbar.🚩 Cruz wins by submission
Just like how you draw it up – Defensive armbar gets the win. Didnt see too much here, but a good win for Cruz.
Facebook Postlims
Francisco Obando vs Chase Eastham – Flyweight
Round 1
They clinch, and Eastham jumps guillotine. Obando gets out and does some work on the floor
Round 2
Obando gets a clean single leg and works to mount. Eastham goes for a heelhook and Obando gets out of it. Obando works to lock up and armbar, and finishes it. 🚩Obando wins by submission
Obando is talent, no 2 ways about it. But the thing is, he’s not there yet, his striking needs work and his technical grappling needs work, but I think he has a fighter’s mentality that you cant really teach. Its early days for Eastham
Taylor Hickman vs Christopher McElroy – Lightweight
Round 1
Hickman land a big right hand and drops McElroy. Hickman land some great ground and pound, and goes to mount
Round 2
Hickman gets the takedown, works to a mounted guillotine and locks it up.🚩 Hickman wins by submission
Hickman looks solid, and McElroy wasn’t ready
