What happened at UFC 245

OK, UFC 245 ended, and it was big. It was a great fight-card. Fantastic prelims and just good action

Check my picks out

Kamaru Usman vs Colby Covington

This was a stand up war, and both these guys are warriors. I knew that Covington had great cardio and a good engine, but I didn’t know that he was such a warrior. He told his corner that his jaw was broken, and they let him down. They should’ve pulled the plug right then. The corner man also said that Usman was “breaking” LMAO. That dude said the champ was “breaking” 10 minutes in. He didn’t say that he had a broken hand or a broken foot, he was saying that Kamaru Usman’s will was breaking. He was basically saying that Usman didn’t want to fight anymore. Why do cornermen lie to their fighters? Is this just fight corner filler? Usman got the win and I picked this fight right

Alexander Volkanovski vs Max Holloway

I picked this fight right, I’m a little mad at myself that I got the method wrong. I thought that Max would become more reckless and get himself knocked out. Volk got the win

Amanda Nunes vs Germaine de Randamie

This was a heart pick from me. I went online, and I had some discussions with some folks about what would happen in the fight, and they gave me great answers, but I still went ahead and kept my heart pick. I guess its because I posted it a little too early. I said that Nunes is very even on the feet with de Randamie, which is absolutely correct, I said that Nunes cannot clinch with de Randamie which is absolutely correct, and I said Nunes whoops de Randamie’s ass on the floor, which is correct. Nunes has holes in her game.at bantamweight. Anyway, I got this wrong, I apologize for my heart pick – I need to be more objective

Marlon Moraes vs Jose Aldo

Moraes definitely won the first round, and the second round was very close. I have no problem with this decision. I dont know where Aldo goes from here. He has a lot of fights that he could take, but at what weight class? I think he should be a high level gate keeper at both weightclasses and get PAID for his services. Nailed this call

Petr Yan vs Urijah Faber

Yan downloaded Faber in the first round and gave him hell in the second and third. Faber is tough, but when Yan gets into bully mode he looks unstoppable. Yan is already a serious contender that can fight for the title at any time. The Bantamweight division is just in a bit of a limbo with Cejudo being injured. Got this right

Geoff Neal vs Mike Perry

Mike Perry looked flat here. Its just a bad match up for him. Kudos to Perry for taking this fight. This sets up a very big fight for Geoff Neal. Robbie Lawler? Maybe Ponzinibbio? Easy call to make

Irene Aldana vs Ketlen Vieira

I guess you lose something when you haven’t fought in close-to 2 years. Ketlen Vieira looked slow and stiff, and was just fighting with street fighter aggression. I dont think Aldana is the no. 1 contender either. I think Marion Reneau is better than her. Reneau just got screwed out of her last fight with Kunitskaya. I picked this wrong, but it was a hard pick, because of inactivity

Omari Akhmedov vs Ian Heinisch

Heinisch never evolved his striking, and he got counter-striked to death. He wanted the fight to go to the ground, but the fight never really happened there. He really did lose this fight this time. And I got this one wrong

Matt Brown vs Ben Saunders

Strange fight, but I expected something a little weird. Brown wins, I predicted this correctly

Chase Hooper vs Daniel Teymur

OK, so Hooper nearly get hung, eats two big shots to get on the inside to grapple, pulls guard, and Daniel Teymur couldn’t deal with him. I’m not a Daniel Teymur fan, but I thought that he’d be talented enough to beat this kid. The striking was non-existent.

Brandon Moreno vs Kai Kara-France

Moreno got so much better after being cut. He looked great when I saw him in LFA, and he continues to improve. He has great defensive grappling and he likes to bang on the feet. He’s definitely grown in 2019. Nailed this one

Jessica Eye vs Viviane Araujo

Araujo should be disappointed with herself. She sold out for the takedown, and when it didn’t come, she was out of ideas. Eye did just enough to win. Eye failed to make weight, and I got this one wrong.

Punahele Soriano vs Oskar Piechota

Easy pickings, for both Puna and myself

8/13 not too bad
