I’ve covered over two years of LFA shows, and this one was one of the the worst. Its certainly in the top 10 of the worst. The show was weird with that jam packed commentary booth, and the calls aren’t as technical as the previous color commentator. And the fights were a bit drab. lmao I’m complaining a lot huh? Moving on… One good thing about this card is it featured all the men’s weight classes except Bantamweight
Fabio Cherant beat Myron Dennis in a 5 round one-punch-at a-time bore-fest to win the LFA LHW title
Fabio Cherant vs Myron Dennis – Light Heavyweight
Round 1
Tentative. Dennis covering up and throwing good kicks, and Dennis eating punches through his high guard
Round 2
Same as round 1
Round 3
Dennis steps it up a little bit, both throwing one shot at a time
Round 4
One shot at a time
Round 5
Slow plodding. Fabio 🚩Cherant wins by unanimous decision
Ehhh… Not impressed by either of these guys, They were way too slow, the footwork didnt blow me away, no technical ability blew my hair back. Cherant just basically tried not to make mistakes through-out the fight, and Dennis couldn’t put his foot on the gas when he needed to. This didn’t really seem like an LFA title fight
Brant Moore vs Ago Huskic – Lightweight
Round 1
Huskic throws some good kicks, and Moore takes Huskic down and goes for some submissions and cooks Huskic a little bit.
Round 2
Moore cooks Huskic for about 3 minutes (Cooking means, just dominating someone on the ground and making them work, BJJ style, not Ground and Pound)
Round 3
Moore dominates Huskic on the ground. 🚩Moore wins by unanimous decision
Huskic seems a little clueless on the ground, and he doesn’t look fantastic on the feet either. Moore has good Jiu Jitsu on the ground, but he’s incredibly soft. Moore has no ground and Pound, and is basically just playing a Jiu Jitsu game for the whole fight. Moore definitely has room to grow and be a lot better. GnP is one of those improvements that he needs to make.
Fernando Padilla vs Nate Richardson – Featherweight
Round 1
Richardson throws some heavy leather, Padilla eats a good shot and throws back well. Padilla also has some good leg kicks
Round 2
Same as the first
Round 3
Richardson starts to throw some good lowkicks, but they are way to infrequent and late.🚩 Padilla wins by split decision
This is a good win for Padilla. I like his striking, (Could be greatly improved) and I like his chin. I expect him to get a contender series call this year, if he plays his cards right. At times Padilla can be a little too linear and wait for his opponent a lot, but I think his physical tools get him out of a lot of mistakes. Richardson is good, but I feel like he’s still doing “kickboxing” in MMA. He simply has to move past kickboxing IMO
Cody Brundage vs Joseph Kropschot – Middleweight
Round 1
Poor footwork from Kropschot. Brundage is throwing one shot at a time
Round 2
Kropschot get Brundage in a buggy choke, and Brundage sits up out of it
Round 3
Brundage runs out, gets a takedown and finishes the fight with a head and arm choke. 🚩Cody Brundage wins by submission
I’m not impressed with either of these guys, Brundage looks durable, but that’s about it
Flore Hani vs Valerie Soto – Flyweight Hani missed weight by 4 lbs
Round 1
Soto is looking crisper with her hands
Round 2
Hani is throwing harder shots, but its an incredibly close stand up fight
Round 3
Hani is coming forward more, hitting harder and clinching more. 🚩Hani wins by unanimous decision
Hani is a bruiser and not very technical. Soto is more technical, but I think Soto lost this fight because she fought lazy. Sure, Soto has quick hands, but her footwork is very lazy, she stands in one place a lot, she either goes forward or backward (she doesn’t utilize lateral movement) and she just keeps her head on the centerline. She almost fights with a traditional Muay Thai style. That doesn’t work against a bigger, stronger opponent. She may need to drop back down to 115 and get those feet moving. Her style needs slick footwork
Darian Weeks vs Craig Fairley – Welterweight
Round 1
Weeks throws some hard leg kicks and gets the takedown. Weeks lands some big left-hooks, Fairly gets the takedown and stands up and gets blasted on the feet
Round 2
Demolition from Weeks. Fairly shoots in and eats some wicked hammerfists for his trouble. 🚩Weeks wins by TKO
Fairly retired after this fight. Week looks strong and he hits hard, but there’s something missing, I have to see more
Trevor Wallace vs Cesar Gutierrez – Heavyweight
Round 1
Wallace has good low kicks. They get into a firefight and Gutierrez rushes in and gets put down with a left hand. Wallace then finishes him on the ground. 🚩Wallace wins by TKO
Good win by Wallace, I like that he showed some good leg kicks. I also think that Wallace can get in a little better shape and go to 205 and do damage there
Fernando Padilla was unbroken
