Maybe I’m a little spoiled by the LFA, but I was a little disappointed with LFA 75. The guys are usually a little more high level. I know a couple of key fights got cancelled and the event just fizzled in my opinion. I watched anyway.
Main event
Andrew Cruz vs Jon Neal – Featherweight
Round 1
Cruz glues himself to Neal and the two go at it. Cruz has the better of the scrambles in this round.
Round 2
Cruz glues himself to Neal and pounds on him. Cruz puts an unholy beatdown on Neal, and I don’t know why the referee didn’t want to stop the fight. Andrew Cruz eventually takes pity on Neal and slaps on the RNC and Neal submits.🚩 Cruz wins by submission
Cruz is very aggressive and has a grinding style. I’d like him to add a traditional boxing game to his arsenal. I mentioned Neal in LFA 66. I feel the same about him now, at LFA 75 as I did then.
Samson Phommabout vs Mauro Chaulet – Featherweight
Round 1
Chaulet took 5 years off from MMA and is coming in on 2 weeks notice. Phommabout rocks Chaulet as he comes in, and Chaulet just stands up and goes for the takedown again, and gets it, they later scramble to the feet.
Round 2
Chaulet gets a takedown and grinds on Phommabout
Round 3
Chaulet gets a takedown and Phommabout reverses it and does some damage. 🚩 Chaulet wins by split decision
Phommabout can learn a lot from this fight. His Jits has to get better. Chaulet needs to work on his standup game.
Westin Wilson vs Bobby King – Featherweight
Round 1
Wilson has his hands down and King is not threatening. King looks afraid to pull the trigger and Wilson is just begging to get knocked out.
Round 2
King lands some inside kicks, they clinch and King goes for a Peruvian necktie and pulls guard. They scramble and get to their feet.
Round 3
Wilson takes King down. King tries several Kimuras. 🚩 King wins by unanimous decision.
IMHO this fight doesn’t deserve to be on TV. Wilson needs to work on a lot. We’re talking amateur status here. King also has several holes in his game. The match makers put together a relatively fair fight though.
Miles Hunsinger vs Nathan Keasley – 175
Round 1
Kearsley looks a little fat. Hunsinger is tentative, and I just think if Hunsinger puts any type of pace on Kearsley that he’ll win. Hunsinger takes Kearsley down, and Kearsley is able to get back up after eating some shots.
Round 2
Hunsinger hasn’t fought in 2 years, and I guess its a great return fight for him? Anyway, both guys have slow footwork, and Hunsinger takes Kearsley down and punches his way in to slapping on a rear naked choke, Kearsley is very compliant and just taps. 🚩 Hunsinger wins by submission.
Great fight selection by Hunsinger’s team. If I just came off a 2 year lay-off, I wanna fight someone exactly like Kearsley at LFA 75
Ty Gwerder vs Mike Jones – Middleweight
Round 1
Gwerder bounces well and looks like he has some pop on the end of his strikes. Jones is less dangerous. Gwerder rocks Jones with a one-two, and Jones comes back on the attack. Ty Gwerder lands a crippling body kick and Jones goes down in heap. 🚩 Gwerder wins by TKO
Gwerder looked like the most impressive fighter on the card. I’d like to see more of him, but I just wontder if he has good enough competition in Utah to push him. I’ll be keeping an eye on him
