Ok, so The LFA is using taglines now. I like it, good marketing. They can sell the fighters’ records without actually selling the fighters… shhh… like I said, Good Marketing. They Also moved from their Kansas Home to set up shop in Shawnee, Oklahoma for LFA 101: Undefeated. Tee Cummins beats Anthony Kalani by TKO in the 3rd round to win the main event.
Main Event
Tee Cummins vs Anthony Kalani – Light Heavyweight – Kalani missed weight
Round 1
Leg kicks by Cummins, and harder leg kicks by Kalani, they throw hands a few times
Round 2
Kicks from Cummins…same as the first
Round 3
Cummins throws a 1-2 and drops Kalani, and finishes him on the ground. 🚩 Cummins wins by TKO
I dont know what Kalan’s gameplan was, he was slow and he was the shorter man, he was stagnant and plodding. I just thought he looked bad. Cummins didn’t look bad, but he wasn’t really pushed, all Cummins did was throw leg kicks and a few combos. He did look light on his feet though
Jalin Fuller vs Treston Vines – Welterweight – Fuller missed weight
Round 1
Vines drops Fuller and Fuller clinches. Vines tries hard for takedowns. Fuller breaks lose and lands a big left hickkick and finishes Vines with strikes. 🚩Fuller wins by TKO
I thought Vines looks good early, but he fought the fight of a fighter that is really green. He gassed himself out in the clinch, and was useless after 2 minutes. And the thing is, he gassed himself out against a heavier man. -Fuller missed weight by 6 lbs. This fight should be a big learning experience for Vines. Fuller is kinda wild, but dangerous and definitely exciting. Fuller also leaves himself wide open for a more technical fighter to hit him
Mark Climaco vs Pololu Nakanelua – 130 lbs
Round 1
Climaco looks fast but eats some punches. He gets a takedown and does work on the ground. He gets Nakanelua in a rear naked choke, but the Hawaiian works his way out.
Round 2
Climaco gets Nakanelua down and does work but Nakanelua fights out of it, and just will not accept punishment
Round 3
Climaco gets on top and does work. Nakanelua is fighting all the way🚩 Climaco wins by unanimous decision
Sometimes there are fighters that just say No. You are more skilled, you have more experience, you are sharper, but the other fighter just says No. This is why I like to call MMA practitioners fighters, and NOT athletes. I dont think it counts as athletic if you survive a rear naked choke, you fight through that shit. Pololu Nakanelua is a fighter – For description purposes, he’s an athlete too… but the most appropriate word to use here is fighter. Nakanelua was going to accept nothing in this MMA bout. and he ended up losing on the judges scorecard, but he gave a great account of himself in this fight. Climaco is polished, He had very good movement, and I personally think he handled Nakanelua’s toughness very well. I want to see Climaco at a legit weight-class before I make the jump to declare him UFC ready. 130 is just too weird of a number
AJ Nichols vs Miguel Jacob – Lightweight
Round 1
Jacobs drops Nichols and gets in the guard and does nothing. They stand and Nichols takes down Jacobs.
Round 2
Nichols gets a big takedown, but doesnt do much damage on the floor
Round 3
Nichols clinches and gets a big takedown and wraps Jacob up in a Crucifix from the bottom and throws some elbows. The referee stops it. 🚩Nichols wins by TKO
I think the stoppage was early, I dont think it was a bad stoppage, but I think it was an early stoppage. Jacob couldve been given a little more time to work, Nichols striking and footwork are incredibly bad, and he’s ground game is not that great either, He’s just a pro-active fighter, and his mindset got him the win. Jacobs has ok striking, poor footwork, and poor wrestling, and he looked like the passenger in this car-ride, for the most part
Jaqueline Amorim vs Taisha Gandy – Strawweight
Round 1
Amorim gets Gandy down, takes her back and administers the rear naked choke.🚩 Amorim wins by submission
Learned that Amorim is quick at taking the back, and learned that Gandy has a horrible ground game.
Aiden Coria vs Rashaad Robinson – Flyweight
Round 1
Coria comes out striking, and Robinson comes out striking harder. Coria is able to get 2 takedowns in this round, but the round is very very even IMO
Round 2
Coria knocks down Robinson with a big left, and finishes him with strikes on the ground.🚩 Coria wins by TKO
Coria is striking now? We should all be worried. Robinson looked like he had harder strikes than Coria, but I thought Coria was being more economical with his strikes, I also liked that Coria just kinda kept his ground game in his back pocket in this fight and showed that he wasn’t really afraid to stand up. Personally, I like seeing Coria at 135, I think he would hit a little harder at 135 and I know that there are some great taco spots in Houston. 125 for Coria isn’t too bad though, he doesnt look too out of place. Hopefully he can get a few more fights this year and evolve even more. Robinson? I think Robinson is good, he’s just not seasoned, his style is choppy and sloppy, and he shows flashes of greatness, but he’s just not polished. I think Robinson could be a great fighter in the future, but right now he needs quality training and reps IMO
Hunter Colvin vs Obinwa Ikebunna – Middleweight
Round 1
Ikebunna throws some strikes and turns Colvin into a grappler. Colvin works to the back and transitions through submissions to get the RNC.🚩 Colvin wins by submission
Ikebunna will be kicking himself a little bit, he got caught… Colvin worked his BJJ game to perfection. The grappler wins this one.
Aiden Coria was unbroken
