Fury FC seems to be putting on a lot of fights. This one is “Fury FC 36”. They are traveling all over the region and just getting out there more. There is a lot of talent in South Texas, and the promotion also showcases a lot of talent from Louisiana and Colorado. Its just a little hard keeping up with the promotion, and to be honest I don’t think the talent justifies all the shows that are being put on.
Anyway, Robstown, TX
Main Event
Roger Narvaez vs Ike Villanueva – Light Heavyweight
Round 1
Narvaez throws some kicks and land some strikes, Villanueva eats them, and lands straight right after straight right to knockout Narvaez. 🚩Villanueva wins by KO
All I got to see in this fight was Villanueva’s right hand, and I do believe that Narvaez retired after the fight. This fight sets up some kind of title fight with Rashad Coulter, who has previously fought in the UFC.
Nico Echeverry vs Victor Martinez – Lightweight
Round 1
They strike on the feet and show nothing really significant. Echeverry takes his opponent down and Martinez is able to stand up. Echeverry is able to take the back for a short period of time and Martinez is able to scramble out of it.
Round 2
Martinez knocks Echeverry down with a straight right and the ref stops the fight. 🚩 Martinez wins by TKO
The stoppage was quick. I have no problem with referees stopping amateur fighters this quick, but these are professionals. Maybe the referee saw something we didn’t see, but, the stoppage was very fast. Echeverry has OK striking and an above average ground game. Martinez has an OK ground game and above average striking.
Allen Silva vs Patrick Ferguson – Bantamweight
Round 1
Silva is able to knock Ferguson down and take the back. Ferguson is able to scramble out of it and take Silva’s back. Silva is able to get out of it as the round comes to an end.
Round 2
Silva comes out ready to strike and Ferguson is on his bike. Silva is able to take Ferguson down and take his back once again.
Round 3
Both guys get on their bikes, and start picking their shots. Ferguson goes for a guillotine and Silva pops out and takes his back again. 🚩 Silva wins by unanimous decision
Silva needs to be more ruthless in dominant positions. three back takes? Come on. They both need some more time on the mat.
Justin Governale vs Stephen Perez – 140
Round 1
Governale has happy feet and Perez just doesn’t know how to combat his style.
Round 2
Perez looks super flat and is just waiting on Governale. The bouncy fighter takes Perez down and beats him up on the floor
Round 3
Perez looks scared and uninspired as Governale gets the takedown. They stand and Perez looks out of ideas. 🚩 Governale wins by unanimous decision
Both guys look slow. Maybe I’m a little jaded because I’m so used to seeing killer bantamweights. Perez looks super scared and almost lazy.
Joe Saucedo vs Chris Cuadra – Bantamweight
Round 1
Saucedo has a heavy lead leg with a traditional boxing stance. Cuadra takes Saucedo down and proceeds to take the back. Cuadra beats his opponent down on the ground and chokes him out. 🚩 Cuadra wins by submission.
Cuadra looked impressive. He decided not to showcase any of his stand up and show us his ground fighting, and it looked good. To be fair Saucedo looked very naive on the ground.
Eric Hendricks vs David Rivera – 130
Round 1
Hendricks lands some kicks and Rivera goes for the takedown, which puts Rivera in Hendricks’ guard. They stand and feel each other out a little.
Round 2
Rivera shoots in and gets Hendricks to the floor. Hendricks is able to grapple his way, to take the back
Round 3
More feeling out. Hendricks lands some shots, and plays it safe by clinching with Rivera. Rivera wins by split decision.
I think that Hendricks won that fight. He had more control, and I think he did more damage. That’s all
David Waters vs David Miramontes – Flyweight
Round 1
Miramontes lands a kick and gets the takedown. Miramontes is just swinging away in Waters’ guard. He tries to pass the guard, and Waters is able to stand up. Waters bangs with Miramontes for a little bit, and then Miramontes goes for another takedown, David Waters is able to reverse the position and sink in the RNC. Waters wins by submission.
Waters is crafty, and in retrospect the man fought a fantastic defensive fight. Miramontes was doing everything to push the pace and not trying to feel what his opponent had for him. This is the 2nd time I’ve seen Miramontes be a little too eager. Do I sense a trend?
Alfredo Benavidez vs Jordan Mojica Featherweight – Amateur
Round 1
Benavidez dives for a single leg and gets it. He goes to full mount and rains down punches. The referee should have probably stopped the fight.
Round 2
Benavidez gets a slam takedown, goes into mount, switches from mount to the back and just keeps beating up his opponent. The referee finally stops it. 🚩Benavidez wins by TKO
Early days for both these ammys, but Benavidez looks good. The referee didn’t look so good though.
Rusty Turley vs Isaac Moreno Welterweight – Amateur
Round 1
Moreno comes out wearing blue compression Jiu Jitsu Spats. They actually look pretty cool. Moreno throw some kicks to the body, then to the head and finishes with punches. Flawless victory. 🚩 Moreno wins by TKO
Moreno, ONCE AGAIN, looked like the best talent on the card. There is Amateur beside his name, but he is not an Amateur. In my opinion, Fury FC should just give him the Amateur Welterweight belt, because he could seriously hurt some more naive amateurs. He looks like he has a fantastic top game, and by the looks of it he has some great striking too. I know this is early days, but South Texas – I think you got one.
Joshua Walker vs Joshua Quintero – Bantamweight Amateur
Round 1
Walker puts pressure on Quintero and goes for the clinch and fights in the phonebooth for a little while. Walker stays glued to Quintero for the majority of the round.
Round 2
Quintero goes for a spin-kick and Walker capitalizes and takes him down, and takes the back.
Round 3
Walker is looking loose, but is just looking for an opportunity to shoot. Quintero throws a naked kick and gives walker that opportunity. Walker beats up his opponent on the ground. Joshua Walker wins by unanimous decision
Walker looks good, but he needs to get his Jiu Jitsu much tighter, his standup also needs a little work
Isaac Moreno was Unbroken
