Fury FC 30: Round by Round results

Fury FC 30

I like the Texas promotions because I am a Texan and, I just think that we have some of the best young MMA talent in the country. Fury FC 30 took place in San Antone, and it was a sweet lil show.

Main Card

Anthony Ivy vs. Aaron Reeves -Welterweight

Round 1

Ivy shoots in gets the clinch and eventually gets top control. Reeves is able to get to his feet and he eats some kicks for his troubles. There is a scramble and Ivy ends up on bottom. He eventually stands up and the round ends

Round 2

Ivy rocks Reeves with a right hand and then pounds him out. The ref stops it, and there is a bit of “afters” after the stoppage. 🚩 Ivy wins by TKO

Ivy is a badass. It seems like he only fights straight killers, and he has no problem with taking on highly ranked opponents. He is very good at being the nail, and he’s punishing when he’s the hammer. I like Ivy a lot, and right now I think he’s a bench mark for several Welterweights.

Gleidson Cutis vs Victor Martinez -Lightweight

Round 1

Cutis moving well on the feet. Martinez is a little stiff, but is landing more. Cutis takes Martinez down and fights for the RNC, but Martinez does a good job of fighting hands.

Round 2

Cutis shoots several times and gets hit. It is now obvious that Cutis does not want to fight standing up, and wants the fight on the ground. Cutis goes for a leglock and gets pummeled, he closes his guard on Martinez, but Martinez survives. The ref stands them up and Cutis gets rocked right before the bell.

Round 3

Cutis wants a Jiu Jitsu match. In truth, the stand up from both guys are terrible. Martinez continues to kick the grounded Cutis for the most of the round, and at the end there is a scramble and Cutis goes for an Armbar, which Martinez survives. 🚩 Martinez wins by Split decison.

Both fighters are terrible on the feet. Cutis seems like an absolute novice on the feet. He can get seriously hurt with that bad of a standup game. His Jits is competent, but its not tight. Martinez is average all the way around for the most part.

Ramiro Ruiz vs. Carlos Vergara -Flyweight

Round 1

Vergara looks stiff on the feet. Ruiz has better footwork, and if fighting most of this fight with his hands down. Vergara seems to have a wider variety of strikes, while Ruiz just seem comfortable with boxing.

Round 2

Vergara shows us his variety and the kicks come out. Vergara lands some heavy knees in the clinch and the ref comes in to stop it. 🚩 Vergara wins by TKO-knees

Vergara has basic Muay Thai; his head movement is weak, his boxing it bad, his footwork needs more work, but his kicks are good. Ruiz’s boxing looks great, his style is a style that can win him matches by points, but I don’t think he can go into a fire-fight with anyone. His boxing is plus, but I’d like to see him work on his wrestling. If his wrestling gets better, he’d have a huge upside

Peter Caballero vs Devin Cowan

Round 1

Cowan has better head movement, Caballero has better footwork. Cowan is winning the striking exchanges until Caballero catches a kick and takes his back. He puts him in a body triangle and tries for the RNC, but Cowan survives

Round 2

Caballero’s footwork keeps Cowan at bay. Cowan hits a takedown and Caballero throws up a triangle, Cowan gets out and the two reset. Caballero takes Cowan down and works for the RNC. The round ends.

Round 3

The two clinch. Caballero gets the takedown, Cowan gets back to his feet. Caballero gets another takedown. The ref helps Cowan out and stands them up. The two clinch, until the bell sounds 🚩 Caballero wins by Unanimous decision.

Caballero is very scrappy. He’s above average on the ground and he has very good footwork. He needs to work on his variety of strikes. Cowan headhunted for a good part of this fight. He needs better head movement and a more offensive Jits game.

Kyle Broadwater vs Marcel Mickens -Featherweight

Round 1

Mickens is long and rangy fighter. He’s throwing kicks galore. Broadwater is bouncing well, but he’s not willing to pull the trigger. Mickens continues to throw strikes without setting them up, and with no head movement. Broadwater will not throw strikes for some reason, and seems to be fighting defensively.

Round 2

Broadwater starts the throw a few kicks. He does not want to throw his hands. Mickens throws a kick that gets caught, Mickens is dumped, and Broadwater stacks him and beats him up for a little bit. Mickens takes Broadwater down at the end.

Round 3

Mickens is now reluctant to throw kicks. He shoots in and the two clinch, knees ensue, and a low-blow stops the action for a little bit. Broadwater hits a slow robotic guillotine technique on Mickens, and gives him top position. Broadwater eventually gets to his feet and starts throwing combos. Mickens shoots and Broadwater sprawls and takes his back. Too late. 🚩 Mickens wins by Unanimous decision.

Broadwater has the higher upside, but this is a fighter that lacks confidence. He was so uncertain in this fight, that it was almost painful. This fight could have gone his way, but he looked so bad in the first round, that I actually kind of agree with it. Mickens needs to add speed and good movement to his impressive frame.

Ruben Martinez vs Patrick Ferguson -Flyweight

Round 1

Martinez gets taken down by Ferguson and then gets ridden for a long time. Ferguson then proceeds to beat him up on the ground.

Round 2

Ferguson takes Martinez down and puts a beat down on him, and its just obvious the Ferguson is much stronger. He takes Martinez’s back and puts him in a big brother full nelson. Martinez gets saved by the bell after Ferguson sinks in the RNC.

Round 3

Ferguson KOs Martinez with a one-two combo. Ferguson is just bigger than his opponent.🚩 Ferguson wins by KO

Martinez wasn’t ready. I’ll watch Ferguson more and I hope to see him against stronger opposition

Anthony Ivy was unbroken
