We’ve had a rough year for MMA in 2020. There are so many fighters that missed out on their development this year and I’m pretty sure a lot of fighters had to quit MMA, because of the pandemic, but hopefully a lot of real fighters still have that spark and continue to train and get better. Some people say that you should never have a plan B. – 😅 I’m an advocate for plan Bs, and plan Cs and plan Qs, because you never know what life’s gonna throw at you, There is a vaccine now, and I’ve heard that its effective, so hopefully in 2021 we can all put this 2020 madness behind us. I dont know how the vaccine will work, but I’m hopeful. Just hopeful.
Women
- Vanessa Demopoulos
- Courtney King
- Rain Guerrero
- Audrey Wolfe
- Hailey Cowan
The female talent is a little thin here in Texas. The girls usually get snatched up and move on to bigger organizations quickly, or they stay Ammy and dont ever go pro. There are some great amateur girls in Texas, but they have a tendency to face stiff competition in a very shallow market and get discouraged. Loren Benjar is very Talented, but she faced Sam Hughes early and hasn’t taken a fight since. Andrea Amaro is really good, but she hasn’t been active for a while and Hailey Cowan is talented, but she’s much more limited at 135, while at 125 she was just bullying girls with her size. Rainn Guerrero is only 1-0, but I think she’s the best 135er in Texas right now. Desiree Yanez moved on to Bellator, so I’m not counting her on my list
Heavyweight
- Vernon Lewis
- Richard Odoms
- Eric Lunsford
- Sebastian Storm
- Matt Foster
The Heavyweight division in Texas is very very weak. Not a lot of big boys participate. As a heavyweight it can be very hard to find fights in Texas
Light Heavyweight
- Julius Holmes
- John King
- Roger Reyes
- Roman Huerta
- Logan Nail
Even more shallow than Heavyweight is Light Heavyweight. Julius Holmes is only 5-2 right now
Middleweight
- Gilbert Urbina
- Jhonoven Pati
- Nick Gay
- Hayward Charles
- Julius Holmes
Middleweight is very sparse. Gilbert Urbina fights everywhere. I dont even know his weight-class. This divison is better than HW and LHW though
Welterweight
- Evan Cutts
- Justin Patterson
- Gilbert Urbina
- Nikolay Veretennikov
- Will Morris
This is the most competitive weight-class in Texas right now. I really want to put Victor Reyna on there, but I think these 5 are just a tad better at this time.
Lightweight
- Victor Martinez
- Brant Moore
- Gilbert Urbina
- Luis Luna
- Charles Cheeks III
This is a very very rich division, all these guys are very talented, and I really want to see more from Victor Martinez in 2021
Featherweight
- Elijah Johns
- Charles Cheeks III
- Cameron Graves
- Lucas Brenan
- Angel Cruz
This is also a very competitive weight class, lots of guys jump back and fourth between 145 & 155
Bantamweight
- Levi Mowles
- John Tao
- CeeJay Hamiliton
- Fernie Garcia
- Alden Coria
I really want to see Fernie Garcia tested. Levi Mowles may actually be the best Bantamweight in the country that is not in the UFC, if he could only make weight. I really wanted to put Armando Villarreal on this list, hopefully he has more fights in 2021
Flyweight
- Jacob Silva
- CJ Vergara
- Victor Altamirano
- Shawn Solis
- Paris Moran
I hope to see more from CJ Vergara in 2021. A lot of these guys move in between 125 and 135
