Best in Texas 2020

Best in Texas 2020

We’ve had a rough year for MMA in 2020. There are so many fighters that missed out on their development this year and I’m pretty sure a lot of fighters had to quit MMA, because of the pandemic, but hopefully a lot of real fighters still have that spark and continue to train and get better. Some people say that you should never have a plan B. – 😅 I’m an advocate for plan Bs, and plan Cs and plan Qs, because you never know what life’s gonna throw at you, There is a vaccine now, and I’ve heard that its effective, so hopefully in 2021 we can all put this 2020 madness behind us. I dont know how the vaccine will work, but I’m hopeful. Just hopeful. read more

Best in Texas 2019

Best in Texas 2019

So, I’ve seen a lot of fights in 2019. Ofcourse I havent seen everyone, but, I’ll go with the stuff I know. So here are my top 5 rankings, in weight divisions in Texas. Ofcourse, guys in larger organizations are excluded

Women

  • Desiree Yanez
  • Vanessa Demopoulos
  • Courtney King
  • Hailey Cowan
  • Audrey Wolfe

Women have a tough time in the fight game in general. They may need to travel to get fights, They may need to move up and down in weight classes, and sometimes life just gets in the way. A lot of good female fighters in Texas never really move on from the Amateur scene. Id really like to put Sam Hughes on this list. She’s fought in Texas a couple of times, but she really is from the PNW. She’d be number 1 or 2 on this list. Demopoulos fights out of California, but she’s had several fights in Texas read more

Fury FC 41

Fury FC 41

OK, so I went to my very first Fury FC event. So I can say I’ve been to the big three Texas MMA promotions. Fury, XKO, and LFA. – If you want to count LFA. LFA is kinda like a national promotion right now. Anyway it was a cool experience, a very intimate venue on a rainy night in Duncanville, Texas

So I jumped in my truck, I didn’t even bother to take my DSLR to the venue. I just couldn’t bother with the hassle of trying to get it in. I navigated through all the Christmas traffic and went into the Fieldhouse parking lot, paid the $10 for parking and made my way to the venue – the Duncanville Fieldhouse – A high school basketball gym. The high school kids has a little canteen set up, and they were slinging hot-dogs left and right and even running out of food. I think they were competing with the food vendors inside the actual gym. Anyway, I bought my tickets for $50 and went inside. It was a little on the expensive side if you ask me. Come on guys, give me a code or something, so I can re-watch the fights on Fite.TV, if you’re gonna be charging that type of money. read more

XKO 45: Prelims and Blog Post

Check out the XKO 45 Main card

So XKO 45 took place on 4/27/19 and that was a fantastic show. The XKO events are always organized and seem to have an interesting feel to them. This show was in the new Texas Live complex which – I heard will be the biggest entertainment complex in the state of Texas. The square cage was outdoors, with shade from the building being constructed and natural light coming in – The humongous Dallas Cowboys stadium is just in the background. The fighters were local and very very very good. I was impressed with the production team. I was impressed with the pacing, I was impressed with the parking situation read more

unbrokenMMA Casey Kenney vs Vince Cachero

Round 1

Kenney starts off by feeling out his opponent. He hits him with some spinning techniques to the gut. Cachero is bouncing around and moving well but he does not respect Kenney’s ability to hurt him. Kenney hits Cachero with a reinforced knee and Knocks him out.

XKO 44

XKO 44: “All in” Round by round results

XKO 44

XKO 44 took place at Gas Monkey Live in Dallas, Texas, and they played on the gambling theme all night. “Vegas style” fights took place, and there were both Muay Thai and MMA fights on the card.

I missed some of the Amateur fights, but I caught a couple of good ones before they moved to the main card

Muay Thai

Tracey Thompson vs Turbo

Round 1

Both guys look tentative and both started with their hands down. Not very skillful from either guy, and I can picture both of them getting fucked up by a 15 year old in Lumpinee Stadium. The fight seems like a “Muay Thai fight for MMA” and I feel a little bit better watching it, once I figure out what it is. read more
