LFA 79 Round by Round Results

So, I’ve been thinking if I should do the round by round results for the LFA since, its so widely available now. I’m not sure if I should just do commentary on fights, or just keep on doing what I’m doing. I missed a couple of LFA events. I’ll try to get back to them. But this LFA was LFA 79 Royval vs Williams. Royval has had a couple guys pull out of fights, he’s had the TV deal cancellation, he’s had injuries and various amounts of bad luck that was stopping him from getting to the title, but all that stopped today.

Main Event

Brandon Royval vs Nate Williams – Flyweight

Round 1

Royval runs up to meet Williams in the center, and hits Williams with a knee, he goes, Triangle, to armbar, to Omaplata, back to armbar to get the tap from Williams. 🚩Royval wins by submission.

I hope Royval gets the call to go to the UFC. He funky, very fun, and I’ve never seen him fight the same way twice. He’s very dynamic and has a great ground game. He’s the Champ!

Zviad Lazishvili vs Josh Huber – Bantamweight

Round 1

Huber gets caught in a head scissors and Lazishvili gets the takedown and lands some hard elbows on the ground.

Round 2

Lazishvili gets the takedown and lands some hard elbows on the ground.

Round 3

Huber has great boxing and wins the 3rd. 🚩 Lazishvili wins by unanimous decision

Huber looked like he couldn’t pull the trigger for long stretches. The fight was there for him on the feet, and his Jiu Jitsu game looked timid and weak. I cant believe that he’s a BJJ black-belt. Lazishvili has good fundamentals and has a competent wrestling game, but his striking is average at best. I’ll watch for some challengers for him. As for Huber, the 135 weight class is very talented, and I dont think he’s a part of that pool

Jaime Hernandez vs Youssef Zalal – 140

Round 1

Zalal is whooping ass on the feet , and gets his opponent scared and apprehensive, he then crushes him with a flying switch knee. 🚩 Zalal wins by KO

Zalal has been good for a while, but I think he lacks a little toughness, he is a finesse fighter, and when things get a little dirty for him, he an struggle. That being said, I think he could easily be an LFA champion.

George Martinez vs Carlos Mota – Flyweight

Round 1

Mota nails Martinez with a kick to the gut, and Martinez goes down, the ref misses it, and think its a lowblow, but replay saves the day. 🚩 Mota wins by TKO

Didn’t get to see a lot from Mota, but what I saw was good. And he’s undefeated right now.

Eric Grant vs Jonathan Wyderko – Lightweight

Round 1

Grant throws a kick and Wyderko throws a kick, and Grant gets the takedown, and grinds on him.

Round 2

Grant runs up to Wyderko and gets a takedown and just grinds on him.

Round 3

Wyderko is fighting better and striking off his back. He stands and rocks Grant with a knee and gets taken down again. 🚩 Grant wins by unanimous decision

Wyderko is great in the clinch and has great knees, but he just misses some key parts of MMA, the wrestling is a little slow, and the Jiu Jitsu seems a little basic. Wyderko did a good job of striking off his back in the last round, but it was a little too late. Wyderko currently has a higher upside than Grant IMO. It was mostly lay and pray from Grant.

Justin Wetzell vs Michael Aquila – Bantamweight

Round 1

Wetzell runs up and lands a left hook after dodging a kick, and just like that the fight is over. 🚩 Wetzell wins by KO

Sometimes you get fighters that dont know they’re in a fight, and they think they’re safe in certain situations. Aquila learned the hard way

Brandon Royval is unbroken
